Hid void insurance

"why would you put 6K on, the factory 4200 looks bluish at the cutoff angle already. you just asking cops to bug ya.

as i said in the brake post, you do stuff thats not DOT legal and obvious, and get in an accident, you can be held negligent or not covered by insurance on technicalities. Just a little bit much risk if you own assets or have responsbilities mate."

I read this off of an Audi website and one of the members was suggesting that if you pu tin 6000 or 8000k hid's they will void your insurance. What do you guys think?

Possible, but not probable. I'd consider the following in my defense:

A couple goes on vacation to a fishing resort in northern Minnesota. The husband likes to fish at the crack of dawn - the wife likes to read.
One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.
Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and continues to read her book.
Along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning Ma'am. What are you doing?"
"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking, "Isn't that obvious?")
"You're in a restricted fishing area," he informs her.
"I'm sorry officer, but I'm not fishing, I'm reading."
"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."
"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.
"But I haven't even touched you," says the game warden.
"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment."

Unless there's specific language written into the policy, then there's coverage. People blow things out of proportion. There's a difference between a negligent act and a deliberate act. Insurance cover negligence all of the time. Now, if he deliberately made modifications that the insurance co can prove he knew would cause an extremely dangerous situation... then there may be a reason for a denial. But again, highly unlikey. For example - if you put curb feelers on your car and it were to accidently amputate a bystander's ankle - then there's coverage. But, if you mount 40" samaurai swords to your rear-view mirrors and then drive through a crowd of people - then you might be out of luck.

Read the policy language in your specific policy, laws vary by state, down payment may vary.

I work for an insurance company. That statement you quoted about voiding the insurance because of HIDs is bull.

Unless you have done something for which you are criminally liable (ie, evading police, illegal street racing) or there is a specific exclusion in your policy (you DID read your policy, did you?) your auto liability policy should cover you as they are designed to do.

That's not to say that an insurance company won't non-renew you after an adjuster gets a look at the mods on your car, but that situation varies from company to company.

Just keep in mind that in most cases aftermarket stuff is NOT insured without an endorsement for extra premium, so if you get that supercharger and your car subsequently is stolen you will be out of luck.

ni i didnt read the policy i know im a *******, but out here three is only one insurance company and everyone has it, so never though tot read the policy i iwll take a look at it now, however i do see alot of cars with mods so it should be ok. Im actually second guessing getting 8000k now because ill be pulled over all the time. Its hard enough being a brown guy driving a mustang around my parts and not getting pulled much less giving them a reason
