HELP: 2009 GT vs 2009 GT Premium

Hello,

My name is Stefan and I am planning on buying a 2009 Ford Mustang GT and I need a little help with making my decision.

I'm using the website cars.com to browse through the various cars available for sale and I'm a little confused if I should buy the GT or the GT Premium. I understand that the Premium version has some "extra features" such as better sound system, heated seats and so forth. If for example I buy the GT and I decide to upgrade some of these features later on will I be able to? Or are the options available on the GT Premium ONLY AVAILABLE if you have a Premium model? Maybe it has something to do with the car's structure or something like that etc...

There really are two things that I REALLY want and not negotiable. I REALLY want a glass top and I want to be able to change the front of the car to look like a 2010 GT Shelby. If I don't buy the GT Premium will I have problems installing these 2 features?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!
Stefan

The big difference between the GT AND GT Premium was the level of interior comfort.
The premium includes leather seating and door inserts and the Shaker 500 with Sirius standard. A lot of other options were only available if you got the premium, such as heated seats. The glass roof cars are all likely to be premium models and pretty rare. If you add the aftermaket glass roof kit, I woul imagine the leather seats would not fade as fast as the fabric ones will.

However, if lets say I get the GT and not the GT Premium, will I have access later on to upgrade to a glass roof and the GT Shelby front, and if I chose to, all the interior comfort options that the GT Premium offers?

Or do I need the Premium version to upgrade the interior comfort options.

It would cost more in the long run. The difference in used car prices are not going to be too much, with mileage and condition having the most impact. Get the car with the options you want. Adding a Shelby front end should not be impacted by the trim level, nor would adding the aftermarket roof since the headliner comes out anyway.

You will NOT be able to make your 2009 look like a 2010. Too many pieces will not match and it had been proven basically impossible. You could however get parts to make it look like a 2009 Shelby.

Otherwise... if you want a glass roof, I advise you just find a car with it. having the modification done will not be cheap....or worth it in my opinion. It sounds to me that a GT Premium with a Glass roof is what you are looking for.

The only feature the premium 08 GT had available that I wanted was the GPS built in. Well, the Bullitt package as well. Turns out OEM GPS units are available on the aftermarket. I am happy with the cloth seats. Actually I prefer them as they are not sticky in the heat or as cold feeling in the cold. Making heated seats un-necessary. It irkes me that to get Navigation and some other performance features, Ford compels you to also pay for a lot of extra fluff. I wanted the meat but not the dessert. So I bought the Deluxe GT and am picking off the options I would have bought from Ford from the after market. Although for the glass roof, I agree, your best off playing Fords marketing game.

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for all the feedback!

If I buy a GT 2010 however, I should be able to make it look like a 2010 GT Shelby right? I really like the newer, rounder design for the GT Shelby. Let me show you an example:

If you look at the car to the left in comparison to the right, to me it just looks much cleaner and smoother with the rounder shapes.

thank you!

that front of the car, to me looks just ABSOLUTELY beautiful... I personally wouldn't write SHELBY all over it since its not... but that's just me... I just want the front without the logos... so I guess a 2010 GT it is!

Stefan, welcome to the Mustang world!! Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to hinder your enthusiasm...but this may sound harsh. If looks are all you care about, go ahead with your plan...but in that case why not buy a 2010 V6 and add the GT500 front end and aftermarket glass roof? For the price of a 2010 GT with a factory glass roof (undoubtedly a loaded premium car) plus the GT500 front end conversion you could buy an 08-09 GT500.

One thing to remember, with these kinds of mods you will never get your investment back. A 2010 GT with a GT500 front end is not worth more than a stock 2010 GT, in fact it's probably worth less.
