Hello, im the new guy!

Hey folks,

my name is James and I currently own a 2002 Zinc yellow v6 mustang. I have been looking around these forums for quite awhile but never registered until now.

I am in a small dilema and am looking for some advice from you. My car has the automatic transmission and im bored to death with the car because of it. I am interested in seeing if it is worth the money to upgrade to a brand new v6 or maybe even the GT if I can afford it.

Im 19 years old keep in mind. I live on my own and pay my own bills. Im wanting a car payment no higher than 300.00 a month. I want something with a 5-speed transmission. Is it worth going up to the 05+ v6 or GT body style (my brother in law can get me an A-Plan price) or should I go with a 99 - 04 GT? or keep the v6 im in now? The car only has 43,000 miles on it and according to KBB it should have over 70,000 the car is in very good condition. I still owe about 9,000.00 on the car (only had it for a year) and I heard a ford dealership would buy me out of the car without tacking any more onto my new car and sell it certified and make a good amount off of it. Is ford currently offering 0% financing as well?

I already have 4.10's and tlok waiting to be installed for a 7.5'' rear end, magnaflow side exhaust mufflers waiting to be put in, and a SCT Xcal2 tuner. I know I would be able to install all of these on a new v6 because they do still have the 7.5'' rear correct?

Sorry I kept rambling on, I just woke up and I hope this makes since. I need advice on what to do. Oh, and here are pictures of my current mustang.

Hi James, Welcome to the forums. That looks like a fun car, auto or not. First off, I would recomend not waisting money on mods if you're going to trade it in. They don't usually add alot of value unless you sell on the open market. With what you owe on the car you would need a big chunk of cash to go with it to get that payment down to 300, even with 0%, and even on a V6. The money you speend on modding your current ride could be used toward the next one. Some one else can chime in on transfering those mods to a new car, but I'm thinking it won't work.
My advise is to bite the bullit for a while and keep driving your current stang for a while longer. Keep the miiles low and save as much money as you can. While your waiting, decide what you really want. I mean set a goal. Be specific in your goal, color, year, options etc. When you can afford that goal, get it! It may seem hard to wait, but trust me, it'll be worth it. If you rush into any 5 speed you can afford, you may find yourself in the same dilema you're in now. Good luck with whatever you do.

The gears and the tlok should fit in the new V6 I believe. You should also be able to get tunes for the 2005-07 V6 for the SCT tuner that you already have. There are tons of tuners out there that will do this. If I were you I would trade your stang in on a 2005-2007 V6 mustang. Personally I think they look better and get more attention than the 1999-2004 mustangs. The new V6 is just as fast as the old GTs, and they come with a warraty. The choice is yours, just do what you can afford.

If you are bored with the auto then you might want to try trading. With an under $300 payment you will need a used 05+. Your car looks great so good luck deciding.

thanks for the replies, I think its probably in my best interest to hold onto the 02 for another year or so and make due with what I got for now. Like i said im really craving more power. which can be done with some $$$ into this 6er. My plans were to originally get it into the 13's with spray so looks like my journey continues in that direction for now.

Im going to be getting some 18'' deep dish bullets for the rear, and 17's in the front... keep the stockers for track wheels. I started tinting my windows yesterday. I got the sides done with 5% leaving the back and front windows to a professional though. Get me new exhaust on as well..right now i have dual flows with turn downs welded on after mufflers

I would go for the new one. Check with your ins company first and see what your new rate will be. It could be the deciding factor for you.
Do they make a shift kit for the 02 6er's?

Hi James!

Welcome to the forum - nice ride!

My $0.02: Keep the current 'Stang for now. You won't be able to get the $300/mo payment without dropping some cash for the down.
