Having only one trunk release is still a mystery.

Ford will ... or did once ... sell a wireless stick on key pad, I have one mounted inside the gas door of the Mustang that I forgot about. Bought in 2014 or 15, still works these years later. It comes with a 5 digit code programmed already. It communicates the same way as a key fob remote. Has the same 5 buttons as the door mounted ones installed on my '95 Bird and '08 truck and the Mercury GM. ... just not lit up.

I have one extra. I always have an extra for all my cars 'just in case'. When we go on vacations I always make sure my wife keeps the extra in her purse. The purse goes with her everywhere. It's a good idea in case I lose mine or it decides not to work for some reason. So far so good.
Speaking of key fobs I scared the hell out of us when we went to a grocery store recently. There is a remote start for my Challenger and it's right next to the trunk release on the fob. I hit the trunk release (I thought) and when it didn't work I hit it again.
The car cranked up with that loud stock exhaust right where we were standing. That's not going to happen again.
