I think allocating a larger percentage of production to GTs in MY2007 compared to 2005 and 2006 will help sales to improve.

This happened to me. Found and 05 Black (deluxe) on dealer order, sold it back to dealer. Ordered Vista Blue 06 from dealer in CT...then found one Satin Silver in CA and sent deposit...then found Black one in Maine...cancelled CA and CT 06's and picked up black 06 in Maine.

Hardly - I see more Mustangs on the road now than ever! When I got mine last November, I swear I was the only one in town. Now I can't go anywhere without passing at least three. So while the dealers may not be able to gouge anymore, they are selling them - clearly.

Good point. I see them everywhere in Memphis. It almost appears there are as many of the 05+ as the previous body style. Supply was bound to catch up with demand. It had to cool off sooner or later, but at least GT's aren't rebated or with low-rate financing. This would drive their value down on the used market. The best thing about the sales cooling down slightly, is you don't have to fight as hard for a deal. All the dealers I've been by lately had a reasonable selection of all models.

I would say they have definately slowed here in canada or ford.ca would not have offered 06's in there new family pricing program announced other day...Also local auto mall ford dealer has a ton of stangs on the lot,and many of them are GT's.

Yeah, here on the lower mainland, there tons of them on lots, and not that many on the road - at least not GTs.

The family pricing on the GTs kind of shocked me. From $37K down to $32K? That's GOT to be below their margins...which means they're not selling well at all. See below pics >>




Sales dude told me that if I special ordered my Stang, they could get me a better deal cause it wouldn't "sit on their lot."

I bought my 2005 last summer. Shopped around the DFW market and found that no dealer was willing to deal less than MSRP +$3,500.

Work had me out in Brady, Texas later that same summer. This is a town of about 1,500 people out in the middle of Texas. They have a tiny Ford dealership (Norman Motors, Inc.) which had a silver metallic GT on the showroom, manual tranny, black leather interior, with the rear spoiler delete...georgeous car!

I stopped in, asked the salesman what they were asking for it and he simply read the sticker price to me. I qualified for the X-plan, so I asked him if he'd honor the X-plan price on the car, which he did.

End result, I bought the car in late 2005 for Invoice - $50

They can drop-ship to any location, if you desire. VERY good folks, VERY easy to work with. Only downfall was driving the car 250 miles back to DFW....but what a fun trip that was

Talked to about 10 different CT dealers today, all of them were crying about all of the allocation going to the sun-belt. None of them would accept X-plan pricing, most of them said they couldn't even order me one if they wanted to.

Yes, it appears the 3 Stooges are running Ford's marketing department. For some reason Ford has allocated very few GTs to the Northeast while southern dealers have GTs coming out of their ears.

The solution to your problem is to purchase a GT from a dealer down South and specify delivery through a local Ford dealer. There are people from several Ford dealers who participate in TMS and could arrange this sort of purchase for you.

Yes I looked into that, but then I would be charged a seperate delivery fee (they call it courtesy shipping to outside dealer, or something of that nature and i was told it can range from $150-$650 depending on the dealer) just because Ford couldn't get their act together?

Its not a bad thing to have Mustangs on the lot, provided that they sit there forever. As a rule of thumb, 60 day supply of a car is the industry standard and anything below that is a good thing for that car. Once the Mustang starts sitting on the lot for 3-4 months, then it becomes a problem.

The Mustang has been in short supply since its launch, and its finally getting up to where its supposed to be in the first place, nearly 2 1/2 years after the launch. a pretty good start for the car.

Haven't seen any official word from Ford on rebates
but I've just received this email from a dealer (Galpin) that
there's a $500 rebate on the GT:

For the First time ever Ford has announced a $500 rebate on the Mustang GT. This is a great time to take advantage and save more on the Mustang. We have over 60 Gts in stock. Please feel free to contact me directly.

That must be a local thing. There are no rebates on the GT in this region.

I don't think that the sales were all that great to begin with. I think that it was more hype than anything. How many 05's were sold? In 1988 and 89 ford sold over 200,000 mustangs both years and in 2003/04 they sold around 140,000 a year.

160,412 MY2005 were produced.

In calender year 2005 and 160,975 mustangs were sold (This includes 2005 and 2006 Mustangs).

Yeah, I was told with a straight face (seriously) that Ford announced a $5000 rebate on GT's last fall, but that the $5000 AMV they had on all GT's during the summer of 2005 would remain in effect!
