When the '05 first came out I think it dropped their value. However, with the lack of availablity and with the mark-up on the GT's, I think it helps their values.

With the new one out I think they would have to give the older ones away to sell em. JMO. I would hate to have been an early 2004 ower not knowing about the 2005 change. Yikes!!!!

Given how popular the 05 is, there is no way it DIDN'T hurt the resale value of the older cars. There are a LOT of SN95s out there, so it will be a while before their value starts going up I think.

Many, many auctions on Ebay not meeting reserve, even for more desirable cars such as the Bullitt and Mach 1. I know b/c I've been keeping an eye on them all winter!

Any time a new and improved model comes out, it always hurts the value of the previous generation.

FWIW, I tried selling my 03 GT VERT Premium (ZINC YELLOW, 16,000Mi) in the local paper for over a month (Viginian-Pilot)...Keep in mind this was NOV/DEC timefrime... a tough time to move a vert anyway... Asking price started at $21K and I knocked off $800 per week finally just asking for payoff $18.400...Mind you I also rode around with for sale signs too... I got 3 calls two of them were from dealers offering me wholesale ($14K) and a an 18 year old who was just wasting my time... I owed $18,400 as payoff when my 05 GT came in January... I ended up eating the trade-in (upside down).. I got $16,100 (KBB good condition)...

I think it has hurt the resale of older models. On every dealer lot we looked at, the 04's are being marked down and salesmen are trying desperately to move them. The 05 is what got us on a Ford lot, and I would not have bought any other year no matter what the deal they offered.

Same here, they tried to show me an 04 but I would have no part of it. Although after looking at Mustangs for the last few months I've gained some respect for the previous models, especially the Cobras and Mach I's.

Based on this I'd say it hurts the newer models (00's and maybe late 90's) but I'm not sure about the older models.

I sold a 2002 Chevy Venture Minivan (pretty loaded was $28,000 new) to get my mustang. Owed $9,300, my dealer was going to give me $7,000, and suggested retail was $14,000. :notnice: Asked $12,000 to give some haggling room and ended up getting $10,500, it sold in a month. I thought I was gonna lose my butt on it, so I was pleasently surprised.

Yes, the new model has hurt the value of the previous generation Mustang. There are two problems; the first is that some dealers still have new 04’s, and they are dumping them at bargain basement prices. This is affecting the pricing on the 2~4 year old used Mustang market, driving everything down. The second problem is that the market is already saturated with 2~4 year old Mustangs that people are selling to buy ‘05s.
I bought my ’03 GT new about a 1 ½ ago, and it’s dropped like a turd in a septic tank.
The MSRP on it was $34K Canadian, and I will get about $19.5K. Fortunately I bought it at a very good price with a 0% loan, so I should break even.

If they had done something like ... both years GTs for $43k or $45k or something, I would have done that.

Yeah, I supposed I could have forced myself to take a deal like that!
