On my home from a full day of shopping saturday i was on the interstate enjoying the nice weather... my was window down and the music was up...when all of a sudden i noticed this wierd feeling in my ears so i turned down the stereo and started to listen, it sounded like my back glass was vibrating really bad so i rolled up my window and it stopped....i was on this interstate so i was at pretty high speeds (about 80) at that time i was getting off the interstate but i was still listening for it but it was no longer doing it with the window down....So has anyone noticed that when you are at pretty high speeds and one window is down that your back glass vibrates really bad? It was vibrating so bad it was hurting my ears!

Just about every car I have owned (and trucks) will do that at high speed with the wind blowing a certain way. Try just cracking the other window. It just the wind compressing the air in the cabin. Had a 94 Sebring vert rental that would seriously inflate like a balloon when this would happen. I managed to lessen it in most of my cars by putting the windgaurd lexen shield around the window. I don't think they have them for mustangs yet.

I dont think it was the Back Glass Vibrating. It is an Occurance called Buffeting. The Air isn't coming into the Window It is Actually Passing over the Opening due to the Aerodynamics. I have Experienced it in other Vehicles. And Yeah it Hurts Your Ears.

Hey Celest, my '98 did the same thing.... it was the seat belt. when I was wearing it, it was pulled tight enough and at the right angle that the wind would make it vibrate like a reed. it got pretty painful to the ears. I don't have my new Stang yet... do these seat belts adjust? by that I mean slid up and down on the pillar to adjust for height? maybe changing that would help.

I haven't had the chance to open the windows. It will snow for the next few months :bang: , then when that stops, it will just rain until next winter
. Then it will snow again :bang: .
Actually, there was one freak day when I had my windows open on the highway and di dnot notice any noise.

TampaBear67 is right; I have the same issue with my sunroof on my Audi. If I open it and don't crack the side windows a little, the air concussion beats at my ear drums! If I open the sunroof partially, the sound goes away. Kinda weird, but it's not just a Mustang problem. More of an aerodynamics issue. I'm sure your car is fine. As Altoid indicated, the fuel economy and aerodynamics are improved with the windows up at higher speeds.

I wonder if the 1965 fastback rear "window" vent helped?

I have noticed that in my toyota but only on the highway and with the back windows down. Doesn't happen with my fronts. Not sure why but I don't drive that way anymore. Way to loud and irritating. Was it your front or back down?

Every vehicle I've owned has done this. I figured it was the air coming in fighting the air going out in the same window. Just created a pressure war.

If you have ever blown over the top of a (beer) bottle, and been able to make a sound, you are hearing exactly the same thing happen, except now you are inside the bottle. A speaker enclosure with a port woroks on exactly the same priciple. For the geeks it is called helmholtz resonance. The factors that come into play are the size of the opening, the speed of the air passing across the opening, and the volume of air inside your car. You can control the effect by changing any of the factors. Obviously the most useful is to simply roll the window up or down.
The level of the sound can be very high, and because the frequency or pitch is very low, you might not be aware of just how loud it really is. It's a good idea to minimize the sound as it can fatigue your ears. It's like having a big car stereo that only plays one very low, very loud note.
I design car stereo speaker enclosures at Rockford Corp for a living so I really am not making this stiuff up!

Just a bit off but relates to air When I lived in the prairies and there were dust clouds every where my nieghbour then seen me always cleaning so she said just pop off your air vent covers and put some cheese cloth in there and when I'm in a dusty area Keep the fan on so the car inside was sorta pressurized. This Really worked in helping keeping the inside clean !

Since there are no face level vents in a '65, most of my summer highway driving is done with the drivers window down and the passenger side up (less noise). With the extractors open there is no buffeting. Since it's not anywhere as airtight as a newer car, even with both windows and both under dash vents closed, you still get flow with the extractors open.
The first time that I ever drove it on a cold day, I couldn't figure out why the heater that I had just rebuilt couldn't keep the car real warm on the highway? guess what?...
