Definite problem here......shuts off between $3.00 & $4.00 worth then keeps shutting off. If I fill very slowly - it gets to about 14 gals then will start spilling gas.....I've only been able to completly fill the tank once - will be going back to Ford as soon as enough others complain that a TSB/recall comes out....don't want the dealer "schooling" off of my car.

Sweet I was nervous because I heard alot about people having fueling problems. Sometimes you only hear about the few times things go wrong and not the 10 that were no problems, I'm glad that was the case here. Thanks for the posts, I feel better now.

No problem yet, only been to two different gas stations though but fill up weekly without any trouble.
I keep telling people to try different stations, I'd almost put money it's due to older pumps or malfunctioning shut off valves in the nozzle. I had trouble filling up my 03 civic a few times, usually in small towns with older equipment.

The problem is known at Ford and I've heard of some of these problems over here as well in Europe, especially with our "closed fueling system pistols"
I was told there are 2 tubes for evaporating the fuel fumes. One is ending in the framework.
During installation the tube got typically bent, while the other is sometimes still stuck with vapors/drops under certain conditions.
Check the routing of the tubes and pull them out whereever you can and check any bents.
(Excuse if I used some funny foreigner words instead of the correct ones)

I just had a problem this weekend for the first time. It seems to be the type of filler nozzle and recovery system. It kept shutting off even at the slowest fill rate. I was at a fairly new Shell station and had a heck of a time filling until I just turned the nozzle to the 2 O'clock position. Thanks to the advice read on Themustangsource forums I was out of there in a jiffy

1,600 miles, still no problems, but I have noticed something.
It seems all of the stations in my area have literally gotten rid of the vapor recovery nozzles. I have had problems with other cars with the same symptoms using these nozzles.
So kudo's to the Phoenix area gas stations that decided to chuck em
