Happiness and the Issues of a Mustang
So I really want a new Mustang, but of course reading the issues portions of a couple of forums makes you gunshy.
I realize quality oftentimes gets sacrificed at the expense of mass production. And that the people who have issues are more of the minority. But it seems like the second year some of these should have been worked out.
So those of you that would like to help me out, pipe on in. Are you happy wiht your purchase? Are the issues you've had been resolved in a satisfactory manner?
Would you buy one again?

IMHO the Mustang is and always has been a cheap performance car. I LOVE MUSTANGS! I love my Mustang. I started a thread about " my black GT turning lemon yellow",all minor issues. When you love a car, you're extra picky. My 97 F150 had no problems, and to have such a variety of little things was a dissapointment. I'm happy with the car, I'm glad we bought it. I would not trade it. I wish Ford were more cooperative,I don't like hearing "that's normal for your car" when the problem isn't normal. Pintos exploding were normal, that didn't make them OK. Anyway! Get a Stang! You will love it. My GT makes me feel like a kid and Sooooo many people stop to admire her. She is a blast to drive. Glad I found this forum though, it helps having info. before going to the dealer. Good luck!
To answer your questions-yes,happy w/purchase, yes resolved and I have an OK relationship w/dealer and yes I would buy one again!(that valencia orange looks hot!)

I think this is my 14th car Ive had in 27 years...I for one could not be happier with the car- if you like cars and enjoy driving, I'd predict you will LOVE this car and LOVE driving it. yeah the tranny whines a bit, gas is difficult at times, mine had a couple spots missed on the undercarriage- hop in and take a drive- love it or hate it, this car is different in ways it will never be just mediocre. if you want a quiet luxury car you wont like it, if you dont enjoy hearing your engine, you wont like it...unless you give it a chance- then I think this car could 'change your tastes' as to what is enjoyable when driving. its firm, fast, has best road feel of anything Ive ever driven, and the sounds are pure music to these ears.
nothings perfect, but the mustang does have some perfect traits: road feel and sound. power is 'near' perfect(but really- is it EVER enough?), looks are near perfect to me, seats fit perfect. from a driving standpoint, its there. Cannot say enough about the sound...a buddy of mine had an old 327 vette(65-67 ish) with factory sidemount exhausts- to me that was the best sounding car Ive ever heard- until I finally got to sit inside my gt- I'm not kidding, it sounds better than that vette, better than any bigblock, better than any other car Ive been in. I havent been in them all for sure, but have been in quite a few- the exhaust on these cars is about as good as it gets. not that high pitched glasspack 'pop' noise, more close to a set of turbos on a big motor, or very close to those sidemounts on that 11:1 327 corvette...not loud, but loud enough. still cant believe such a small motor could make such music.
slight 'coulda been better' things- seatback releases are not best if you have kids getting in and out, the gas filling problem at some stations sucks, the plastic console and door panel kinda wear on my knees on a long drive(a little padding would be ok), and I'm still thinking of losing my quarter glass for painted steel fastback look - lastly, a blower would be great, as would a six speed for the money this is one heckuva drivers car. I doubt theres anything else out there with V8 sound/torque that could even come close at half again the price. for that difference, mod it yourself to personalize to more your idea of 'perfect' and be dollars ahead with a future classic.

I bought a 88 LX 5.0 brand new in 88, drove it over 325,000 miles and now have an 06. No issues with either. Remember that on the internet you are hearing from the whole country, not just your town. And people are MUCH more likely to complain then comment about no problems. With that in mind, there really aren't too many complaints. And the 06's mostly seem to have the fuel fill issues and whatever else under control. The build date on mine is 12/05 and I don't have issues.
So yes, I would buy another. (If I keep my 325,000 mile / 18 year streak going, that'll be in 2024!)

I traded in my pontiac grand am so i could get rid of the problems, having had my fill of GM cars for awhile. My mustang arrived brand new off the truck and rattled from day one, the blower motor clicks whenever its engaged, which i have recently discovered is a problem with all ford blower motors. It doesn't shift very smooth, i have to double clutch half the time i want to go into reverse. All the dash rattles, and its only gotten worse. Not to mention 90% of the other mustangs i see driving around are driven by women, i feel as if i don't fit in when i'm driving it. I don't know what has swayed so many women to buy mustangs. Honestly, i wish i would have bought a ranger or an f-150 now.
This poll is biased. It's set up so that only people who have had problems can vote; there is no choice for "no problems". People can look at the results and say "100% of the people who voted in this poll have had problems with their Mustangs"...
I have had zero problems with mine, except that I am addicted to driving it.

I gotta agree- and I didnt bother to vote in it because of this.
a truer poll might be to ask 'on a scale of 1-10 how would you rate...' for each item.
needs some pro/con to give a picture of overall impression of the car.
I do think as for 'value' most would say its towards top of the heap- especially on the GTs. the nit-pics Ive got dont make me dislike the car, and I'm the guy that usually nit-pics things to death...if the car had cost 5-10 more, then I'd say it is too cheep, but as-is, I'd say thanks to Ford for making it affordable to a guy with a family to take care of. no cost stuff like the gas filling is just an engineering oops in my opinion, and they really should remedy that one- cost the same to stamp out a f'd up tank as one that works...things like interior 'hard' feel costs extra...I'm glad the extra went into the drivetrain.

Yeah I have problems, but to keep this short would I buy another? Yes I would buy one in each color, some with all the options some with none. This is a great car that has some problems, that show up some of the time. You have to keep in mind that only people with problems post problems and there are a ton of these cars selling and think of all the people that have no problems. If you can get the car, get it you will never regret it.

You see a lot of women driving new Mustangs.......that's an issue? Is it supposed to be an instant macho mobile? How are you going to feel when you see women driving F150s?

I've had, and have, some problems. I don't really have issues with that, every car now and then has problems.
What I have issue with is the fact that getting any warranty work performed is like pulling teeth.
Would I buy one again? Absolutely. I love the car, I love the way it moves, looks, everything. Absolutely love it and would highly recommend to anyone who is thinking about buying one and is on the fence-- buy one!
BUT I will not lable people who have issues with their car as "whiners." I think there are plenty of people here who have legitimate problems and complaints that they probably shouldn't have. People who complain, at least to the right people, make it better for all of us. You ever hear of the squeaky wheel getting the grease?
I really don't understand this attitude of, "Well if you have a problem and complain then you're just a whiner and your problem isn't really a problem.... suck it up and be proud to own a Mustang."
I've owned a Mustang since 1991 and still have that one and my new one. I love this car and pretty much everthing it represents but Ford needs to adjust it's policy on warranty work. And I know people will say, "oh well it's just the dealer..." and that may very well be (even though I have yet to run into a Ford dealer that was pleasant and willing to work on my car under warranty) but it all comes from the top. Dealers represent Ford and the buck stops at the top as far as I'm concerned.
So the fact that I love the car doesn't blind me to relevant complaints and issues that SHOULD be resolved, and people who are blinded by that... well I really don't know how to respond to someone jamming their head in the sand and pretending problems don't exist just because they don't want to believe they do.
So for the trimmed down version of this rant... uh yeah go buy one you'll love it

The clicking of the blower is NOT normal, I had the same problem with mine took it to the dealer they had a hard time getting Ford to replace it but they fought for me and got me a new one, now I have no problems with it. Just thought you might want to know.

Same vote problem here. I really have had only a minor few issues. I LOVE my car... I've ***NEVER*** spent anywhere near this much money on a car - and I'd do it all over again. First time I make payments with a smile on my face!
The only way you're gonna get this car from me is to rip her from my cold dead fingers!
I'm in love with this girl and my wife's not after me with a knife! :0
Can't beat that!

I can't vote:
Orange peel
Shaker sucks
Gas tank is embarassing
No- none have been fixed to my happiness, but yes I would buy another in a second.

I didn't say that and it's not my attitude. It's a new car and all car lines have minor problems: Mercedes, Acura and Ford......places I've interned at....they all do.Whining is just as annoying in a car as it is in a person. I wouldn't live with either ;-) My answer is, again>>>>TAKE IT IN! Most of the problems are not that big a deal. Ford has good trained techicians that have experience repairing most of these problems by now. Pride is foolish if you're living with something minor you can't stand, especially if it cost you $30,000.
Some people DO have serious issues/complaints/concerns with their cars (a new Acura RL that needed a new engine after 1000 miles, an incredibly nice car, but mistakes happen. In this case probably before it even got on the boat.). Nearly all are anomalies. Most cars today, even Hyundai, are well built and designed. My advice is the same>>>>TAKE IT IN! The last thing Ford, or any manufacturer wants is someone complaining needlessly. That's why we have a WARRANTY. That's why they give a warranty.
What I see is people complaining MORE on American cars for the same minor issue, where on an import they take it in stride.

Hmmm.....does this mean I shouldn't be seen driving our two trucks, ATV, dirt bikes, or the 4 horses in the barn as well as my 06 GT because I am a woman?? I won't dare mention that I hunt as well!!!! Don't worry my dark tint on my windows in the stang hides the fact that I am a woman on the road and my camoflauge suit hides the fact that I am a woman out in the bush LOL
To answer the post question, I have only had mine for a few weeks and I absolutely love it. No issues so far. We had a brand new one in 86 as well and it was a great car. I would never hestitate to do it over again.

I didn't mean to single you out... but either way I don't think someone complaining about legitimate and known issues on a car they spent their hard-earned money on is whining. But that's just me.
As for "taking it in" as I stated in my previous post I've yet to have a helpful and pleasant experience with any Ford service department, perhaps I've been unlucky the last fourteen years... but I doubt it. And I would think that many people here who have issues that aren't being resolved have the same problems.
I remember many posts about the gas tank issue and the fact that the service departments and techs were telling people it was "normal" and that it was somehow the owners fault... as if they had somehow filled the gas tank improperly.
Of course now there is a TSB and service departments are required to fix the problem. Somehow it's not "normal" anymore.
This is precisely the attitude I wrote about and I would imagine a lot of the "whiners" were writing about as well.
My issue with my transmission, which has the same symptoms as the '05 TSB for "transmission grinding / growling" was not fixed by my local Ford dealer because it was "normal." And when I presented the '05 TSB he said the transmission was completely different in the '06 and that it couldn't possibly be the same thing. Of course that was a straight-out lie because we all know the transmission on the '06 is the exact same transmission on the '05. So my quest for a good service department will continue... I hope I find one. Until then I'll have to pray that enough people with '06 Mustangs complain/whine to their service departements enough for Ford to issue an '06 TSB because until then I'll have to live with it unfortunately.
I didn't say that and it's not my attitude.

I don't mind being singled out. This is a discussion board and we are discussing after all. LOL
I do see your point, your SERVICE (or lack of it) is a legitimate concern.
We have two sub points
1) Issues with the Mustang (product) from the Customer
2) Issues with Ford in follow-up (service) to their product.
1+2=3. 3 being the customer's overall total experience with their product.
Back to #1. The Mustang is a good product.
IMHO it's initial quality is as good as anything out there for the money. It's designed, engineered and assembled well. We're familar with most of it's small problems: occasional sqeaks, rattles, gas tank, hesitation, etc. None of them are broad based. Annoying, yes, but should be relatively easy to solve. And catastrophic failures are not common.
#2. Service is Ford's Achillies Heel.
a) From what I've heard, and not exclusive to Ford, is some companies pay a lot less to Techs on warranty work. "Warranty Doesn't Pay" is the mantra. Apparently when making the formula on warranty work they use Master Craftsmen with helpers in a clinic...ideal situations that most good Techs can't duplicate in a typical garage. So a Tech can spend a lot of time on a problem and not be paid for all of it.
A good Advisor should run an OASIS (check for recalls, that are broad based ) on any Ford brought in. They may not be familiar with all the TSBs. But if it's common they will be aware of it. If you have access to the TSB, copy it and bring it in. It'll save them time and educate them. Heck, I do the same thing (research)with my Doctor....."You are your own best advocate." It shouldn't be confrontational, just involved.
c) There's a hierarchy in Service for known problems. Recalls, TSBs and "what the customer thinks"<<<which may or may not be the actual problem. It's my guess that after a certain number of WTCTs,and a solution is found, it become a TSB. It may sounds like Ford isn't listening if you complain, but they obviously do. What may be a TSB on an 05 may not be a TSB on an 06, yet. What your Advisor told you is just dumb IMHO. Lying is just wrong. It's unprofessional. It errodes customer good will. And eventually they will be proven wrong. I would have asked him/her to speak with a Tech together. Hopefully, at best, he was just misinformed AND dumb. It may be that dealership's policy (or Ford's) to sandbag a problem until a TSB has been issued. It could be a pay issue for them. But no matter how you cut it, lying about it doesn't help.
d) Make the coffee free!
Come on.....if I just dropped $200 for service give me a free cup of coffee.
As for whinners, they are not all created equal. Some aren't whinning at all, they have a legitimate beef, and I genuinely empathize with them. Some people whine because they think the sqeaky wheel gets the grease. Some people whine and lie at equal measure...manipulators. For me, someone involved in customer service most of their life, whinning is just another level to get through to get to the issue. Just get to the point!
