GT500-vs-Saleen-vs-GT-vs-V6????Ughhh
Hello all. I sold my daily driver car about a month ago, and have been hooked again by the newer Mustangs. My first car was a 65 Blue Coupe. Every day it seems like I have come to a conclusion which car is the best, and then I get an email, or see something different on the internet for sale. Anyway, over the past month or so, I have had a chance to drive quite a few different Mustangs. Everything from new and low milage used V6 and GT's, to the GT500 and Saleen H302 series and Parnelli Jones. I like the idea of the V6 for about $18k new from some dealers who are desperate, also a GT for about $22k new. I wouldnt hesitate to drive the crap out of them because the miles wont really hurt the value. I drove the GT500, which had about 1400 miles on it, great car, but stock, it feels very, very heavy, which it is, but lowering it would help, but still $45k+ it would end up just being a weekend car, and I would never enjoy getting a ton of miles out of it. The biggest surprise was the Parnelli Jones version, it definitely leaves an impression on you. I felt like I was driving a Boss 302, in 1970, but with 2008 technology, if that makes sense. The stroker motor is definitely the best of the bunch, very smooth, instant power, it felt very light and quick, and the sound from the Shaker hood, and exhaust was perfect. Not sure why they put the 5 speed and not the 6 speed that is in some of the other Saleens, but the 6 speed in the Saleens I drove seemed far smoother than the 6 speed in the GT500, and waaay better than the 5 speeds they give us for the GT!! $$$ Factor I guess!! I now think that the whine from the supercharger on the GT500 ruins the whole experience. I know it is New-School hot rodding, but there is something to be said for "All Motor"!!!!!!!!! But, the Parnelli Jones isn't really unique as far as taking it to car shows, and friday night gatherings in any major city, but the whole package, shaker, sportslats, stripes etc, and the retro interior is really cool. Anyway, I have a headache from all the choices, and like everything else, the choices I like =$$$$$$$$. If Ford would just let us order a car the way we want, basic V6 package with an upgrade to a 5.0 stroker motor and 6 speed like Saleen has to offer, for about $25k, and let me spend my $$ on the mods "I" want and not force us to have to get the whole "GT" or "GT500 Shelby" package, I would be set. BUT, this is 2008 and not 1970, so I guess I need to just wake up to reality and just get a good deal on a new 2009 GT!!!

My good friend has one, and we have gone to shows in 3 different states (Eastern PA, NJ, and MD) and you know how many PJ's I have seen other than his in the past year? 2 others, thats it!! When he pulls in to a show, people flock to his car, as its rare and different! If money was no object, I would have one of these over a GT500 anyday of the week!!! Its a SICK CAR!!!

I test drove the Bullitt and I ...was dissapointed. It's smooth. Really smooth, and it looks like Ford finally worked out the clutch because thats easier too. The seat's really comfortable, and it felt like driving my girl's benz. It sounded good, better than the GT but quieter. All in all a very good car but... its a mustang. I want it to be loud, I want to feel the road. It just felt too civilized. Dark Highland Green looked awesome though.

I would also rather have a pj. They will have a much higher value years down the road than a gt500. Look at the original gt500 values vs. the numbers produced maybe 1200 over 2 yrs in those days compared to 7500 the first yr to the new gt500's. pj edition is limited to 500. I have only seen 1 in person. It was nice, also has decent power and nice suspension upgrades.
Thats what borla makes the stinger mufflers for.

Are you kidding? You do know how many they made right? Only 500. And that was for only 1 year. Do you know how many GT500's they have made so far in 2 model years? Almost 19,000! You'll see far more GT500s than PJs at car shows and cruise nights, let me tell ya. I think, your a little off on your thought there.

For a DD get the Bullitt or GT and dress it to your liking... For a weekend cruise car I'd go with the PJ.

Well I maybe a little biased but I love my PJ, but its a tribute car, so it's not for everyone. Buy the car that makes you happy, don't worry about future values. The beauty of the mustang is you can modify it to your liking! Good luck with your purchase

That's the kind of headache I would love to have.
What about this one? http://www.saleen.com/2008_h302_3v_specs.asp
Or maybe even this one? http://www.saleen.com/2008_h302_sc.asp

You seem to think that an after market modified car is valued equally with FACTORY SE
How does the population of the United States of America in 2008 compare with the population in 1968?
Since these cars are not restricted stricktly to the USA how does the world population of 1968 compare with todays world population?
Do you think they have risen more, less or equal to the increase in GT500's built in 1968 versus 2008?
You seem to think that an after market modified car is valued equally with FACTORY special edition cars. I do not.

man if your seriously ready to buy a pony over 50k, you have options, roush has, p51, black jack, drag pak, trak pack, s3, 427. 428, or get a pj, or a saleen extreme, or a cervini eleanor, and I would gladly drive each...
