i am getting a loud whine from the rear end: here are the parameters: must be going between 63 and 69 and foot must be on accelerator - when coasting at that speed the noise is not there; it is annoying and loud enough to notice; the car has 1200 miles on it and it may have always been there but it is too hard to hear with the top down but it has been so hot the top went up and bam: there it is;

Anyone else have this and if not guess it will go to the dealer. Thanks

Chuck.......I have the whine when Hubby turns loose....... :nono:
NO, just kidding........I do have the whine when I'm OFF the accelerator, speed doesn't matter with mine. Rear end differential has been replaced once, but still have the problem as well as a vibration.
Edit.....you have a great looking car!!

was there any variation with speed or did it do it all the time? I dont know if the dealer will even want to deal with this but i am gonna push it; will tell him it just started and did not do it when it was new; never heard it before today anyway;

The dealer replaced the ring and pinion in my GT and the noise was still there. They removed my console and checked something in the top of the transmission and then pulled the plug to find matel shavings in the pan. They ordered me a new 5 speed but it is not in as of yet.

Mine is very loude at 50 mph in 5th gear.

I had a whine at just about all speeds. The service department installed a harmonic balancer and now the whine is only objectionable when decelerating from 80 through 70 kph. The service manager still felt it was too loud and ordered a "whine kit "which has a matched crown and pinion ,bearings etc. Will report back when the new parts are installed.

I have an auto tranny and it did it even if I was only going 30 mph and let off the gas. The loudness of the whine varies. It seems louder at higher speeds. Since we got the rear differential fixed, the whine is not as loud. Good luck with yours.

Mine whines at 50 and up, foot on gas. When I let off, it goes away. I performed the TSB for installing dampers on the rear axle, no help there.

are you at some point going to take it to the dealer to see if it can be fixed using their $? I am gonna try but will wait until I get 3000 miles in case something else pops up.

:scratch: Go see the dealer. Sounds like improper backlash set up from factory. It’ll only get worse and eventually cost you $$$s.
:bang: We had a similiar problem. Ours was more noticeable when decelerating from about 70 to 45 mph. Engine and exhaust hide the gear whine during acceleration unless you're really paying attention.
:bang: Dealer ordered and replaced the ring gear; it got worse,
B) They ordered and replaced the entire rear and the problem went away.

ok. when it get 2000 miles (at 1300) i plan on taking it in for an oil change (never would use dealer for this otherwise) and i will bring up the rear end problem as well and get it documented; actually, this should be under 3 year 36000 mile warranty so no urgent need yet but since i live in Nebraska the car doesnt go out in the winter much so maybe will wait until winter if it is an issue; just confused as to why it is only between 62 - 68 when accelerating; oh well thanks
