Greetings!

I am a new member and rather than do the usual "Drive By" asking questions, getting responses and never acknowledging the result, I thought I would post some of my experiences with the Mustang.

I have an '07 GT, manual transmission with 36,000 miles on it. When I got it new, the release bearing was noisy when the pedal was depressed. It never really got any louder but we all know that they should be silent.

About a month ago, I went from Baltimore to St. Louis. That trip was about 12 hours and 820 miles. Mind you, I figured since the car was "new" I should have no problems. The trip went well and I averaged 28.5 miles per gallon even through the Appellation Mountains.

All went well to St. Louis. However on the second day, there was a slight squeaking noise when the clutch was completely released. Placing my foot very, very slightly on the pedal and it went away. All was well on the trip home until eastern Ohio. The pedal felt "funny" when I got back on the Interstate on the Sunday late evening of Labor Day weekend. (Do you see the pucker factor coming into play here?).

I made it all the way back to MD and when letting my friend off at his home, the pedal went to the floor. No release. I left the car and next morning the fluid was dripping out of the bell housing.

Problem was a bad hydraulic release bearing assembly as you most likely guess. I have my tools in Florida now (moving to there) so repair by me was not an option. The cost was $753.41. The bloody bearing was almost $300 by itself. Had I been able to replace it myself, most likely would cost a lot less from NAPA.

Anyway, the lesson here is that I should have taken it to the dealer when I got it, insisted on the throwout bearing being replaced because it was noisy. Lesson learned.

Hope you guys/gals have not had the same problem.

BTW, I still love the car! It is a keeper...

The next issue that I had was the battery going flat. Thanks to the members here, I was able to sort out what kind/size battery it needed.

I got 6 years out of the original battery. I got a larger battery from NAPA and it works fine. Only disappointment is that the "blanket" around the original batter is smaller than the replacement. New battery cost $104. No complaints here...

BTW, I forgot to mention that after installing the new battery, I got a "Tire Pressure Monitor System Fault" or words to that effect. I checked the tires and all were where they needed to be. After two days, it went away.

Just a heads up or FYI as they say...

Thanks for the posting of problems ..... cause just like in your case, throwout bearings (any bearing actually) seldom ever "self cure".

Baltimore to St Louis .... great trip along the path of the historic old National Road!

Fun trip .....

...... and WELCOME!

welcome- thx for sharing- think I might pickup a spare throwout before I need one! $750, ouch... hate when stuff breaks on a trip- always costly.
