Got my Flowmaster exhaust installed

Ordered the Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust for my '06 GT. Just had it installed today courtesy of www.hgmotorsports.com in La Jolla, CA. If anyone lives in the San Diego area, everyone at HG is super nice and they do great work. Only real mods left are sequential tail lights, GT500 style pedals, 14" antenna, and probably a K&N air filter.

Definitely let us know what you think of the flowmasters. I can't ever make up my mind on what exhaust to get.

How are they as far as tone, volume, drone, etc? I was in a 2007 GT the other day with flows and I was somewhat disappointed by them. I thought the sound they made was just 'noise' really. Louder, but not a pleasant tone. But flowmaster makes several types of exhaust and I didn't get a chance to find out which ones that car had..

Honestly, I think they sound perfect. The thing I wanted, and the thing I like about them, is that they keep that original Mustang muscle car sound. Yes, they're louder than stock, but I don't think they're too loud by any means and they don't alter the sound. Just makes it more aggressive. I definitely didn't want to lose the stock sound of the Mustang. To me they sound perfect on the Mustang. They're loud enough to put a stupid grin on your face when you fire the car up or when you hit the throttle, but not loud enough to be annoying and **** off your neighbors. They don't really have a drone to them and the tone is that typical deep, growling or grumbling sound you want from a Mustang. Judging by what your Mustang looks like and the posts I've seen you make in my threads, I think you'd really like the Flowmasters. I just got the American Thunder model from American Muscle.

I also had a 10% off coupon (use the code warmup10 for this), so it only came to $266 and then $97 for the installation. Plus I got two brushed aluminum HG Motorsports license plate brackets for free, which add a nice little touch to my car, since they're black with red lettering.

Thanks for the reply. I think that you're right, that old school muscle car sound is what I'm looking for.

Do you know how long that discount code is good for? That's a sweet deal, but I'd have to wait until I get paid at the beginning of next month..

Yeah, I listened to all of the sound clips on American Muscle and the only one I actually liked was the American Thunder. Some of the others were decent sounding, but just not what a Mustang should sound like in my opinion...and especially not for double the price. And I think that code is good until the end of the month, but I'm not 100% sure. I was tempted to buy the sequential tail lights as well because they were on sale and then with the 10% off they would have been super cheap, but that will have to wait a few more weeks until I get paid again.

Oh, and do you have a link to anywhere where you've posted more pictures of your Mustang? It looks great in your avatar picture. Love the silver and black combo.

Very nice. The Flowmasters would look great on your car. I love the way they match the GT badge. The stock exhaust are just too "blah" looking.

hey mrp5150, do you happen to have any videos of the sound? i constantly go back and forth on what i actually want in an exhaust system, and i feel that we have similar tastes. i don't want to **** off the neighbors, but want a smile on my face if i do step on it a little. i've checked out the videos on AM and had the same thing happen, where i only liked the sound of the american thunder, but i am having trouble actually pulling the trigger.

what is the interior noise like? that is ultimately my issue, because i don't want something that will be so loud that i have a headache. i sometimes take my car for road trips of 2 hours or more to visit friends and family, and i'd hate to have a really loud exhaust rattle my brain the whole time. have you had it on the highway for extended times around 75?

thanks for the help

Hey Jerry, I could try to record a video with sound, but all I have is my phone. Not sure how well that would actually capture the real sound. The video on American Muscle is pretty dead on. I haven't taken it on any long trips yet, but the interior noise is not bad at all. I've been on the highways with it and I don't find it annoying. And just as a reference, my wife was skeptical of me getting a "loud exhaust" but even she agrees that it sounds good and it doesn't bother her at all...and her favorite car is the Prius.

Glad to be of some help. And the more I drive the car now, the more I love this exhaust. It just sounds so good and it looks great too. Couldn't ask for anymore, especially for the price.
