Going to test drive a GT on monday.....

Hey all,

I was offered a test drive of a mustang GT!!!!!! I asked the salesman "No sales talk crap. Tell me the real difference between my V6 and the GT."
He said come on down when you have the chance and we'll take it for a spin.

So me and a buddy are going down monday for just that. It will be an automatic(I can't drive stick well yet and they don't have a stick one there.)

Now, I've never driven a V8 before. lol.

Any tips or things to watch out for? I only ask because the most powerful car I've driven is my freinds 3000gt and thats a 225 hp V6.

Thanks,

05

Well as soon as you get your GT, you need to do a few mods ASAP.

1) Get a tuner (SCT is my preferance).
2) Get a CAI kit
3) Get some 3.73, 3.90, or 4.10 gears. Don't do 4.30 - that's too much.

Is that a hint that I will be spell bound into buying it?

I'm going to test drive. Not to buy it.

Dude, just bring your checkbook, a defibulator, and something to wipe the mess you are going to make off the drivers seat and you will be fine.

LOL. I don't think I'll be that bad. Now if I was test driving a Viper maybe...

That's one thing I definately know. Don't give too much gas turning. I'll probably drive it like an old granny. I've never driven a V8 so I'll be afraid it will get away from me. The salesman will probably have to say "Dude. What the hell are you doing? Did you forget that this car has a gas pedal?

It won't get away from you, but you will have a big smile on your face when your done with the car.

If the roads are wet, don't hammer the gas

(I haven't seen a classic "went on a test drive" thread in a long time)

The V8 will respond more quickly - and enthusiastically - to your right-foot commands. So gradually get the feel for the response. Work up to it. And do it in light traffic areas so you have some room.

You can get a lot out of just the first inch of pedal travel. Once you go deeper into it. . . WEEEEEEEE!

Here's a Tip: Turn off the T/C before you put the trans in Drive. I don't know if the Engineer was b/s ing or not, but its a game the wife and I play. Seems to make a difference. I usually forget because that's not something I need to do in my Cobra.

Don't drive it unless you intend to buy one. If you're happy with your V6 now, just be happy with it. If you drive a V8, it will only emphasize the differences, and maybe make you wish you had a V8. (Slap forehead here..) Why do that to yourself? The V6 is nothing to sneeze at, and a totally cool car already. The V8 is great, but has higher gas and insurance costs. It will NOT get away from you, especially with the TCS on. It's just a car, not a monster, but if you love your V6, just let it be. But you won't, will you?

You are right backafter20. I do love my car. I have no intention to buy it or buy one anytime soon if at all. I figure since this guy THINKS I want to, milk it for all it's worth. (Devilish evil grin.) And I know you'll all say "That's what you say now", but I'm serious.

I don't care about having the "big V8 thunder." Yeah it's faster and sounds cooler, but I really have no NEED for it.

Well I'm going to be the dissenting voice here. I drove the V6 and GT back-to-back not once, but twice before buying my car. In a typical test drive, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY THEY DRIVE!! They drive exactly the same. Even the exhaust didn't sound that different. Now there is no arguing that the GT IS faster and handles better, but unless you are test driving it on a track or you're willing to risk a ticket and/or PO'ing the salesman; you're not going to be able to push it hard enough for the extra performance to kick in.

Watch out for the onset of car lust....it has taken down many a shopper! You may find the power somewhat intoxicating!

Sitting behind a Naturally Aspirated V8 feels better than a Supercharged V6. ( and i drove it daily five years )

It will GET you, so much as it did for me, i could not give up the V8 when it came time to put up the ShowCar

This isn't about NEED. It's about the smile (SE grin) on your face. I was able to test drive both the automatic and the 5 speed. The salesman didn't know how to drive a stick, so he was happy to come along. It had been years since I had driven a stick, 2nd gear and 75, told me it was all coming back. Not sure who had a bigger smile on his face, the salesman or myself. The 5 speed was used, so I put my foot into it. The automatic was new and I just couldn't bring myself to flogging an engine that was not broken in yet. Enjoy!

yeah, thats what I said before going to test drive - I don't need it. After the test drive I was arguing with the salesman " Why I can't take it home today"?

If you going for a test drive, be prepared to trade in your V6 for the V8.

You wil notice the most difference when the car is aimed straight ahead and you accelerate, especially if you run the engine up close to redline. The torque will tickle your tummy...

Remember that an addiction starts the first time you indulge in it - just one little mash, that's all.

Good luck!
