No person shall dispense fuel at a gasoline station, unless the person is an attendant who has received instructions regarding the dispensing of fuel
I suppose you then become a certified petroleum transfer technician.

That would seriously be enough for me to shoot across to PA or NY if I was even halfway close to the border.
You really wouldn't want to do that because PA gas prices are 3 to 5 cents higher always due to their gasoline taxes. I work with 90% PA people and most of them gas up here so they don't have to do it and it's cheaper.

that is just insane!! A "trained fuel pumping technician"
its no wonder that when all the snowbirds from New Jersey take forever to pump their gas down here in Florida being as they are not trained to do it! LOL!

Gas is at around $1.80 for regular, locally right now.
As for the law, I've never seen it enforced. First I'm hearing of it being enforced even.
Though back a few years I worked at a gas station, and I'm well aware of the "saftey hazards and procedures". I wonder if this entitles me to pump my own gas?

You also have to keep in mind that NJ is a facet of the US oil trade.
Just below Newark, you have Elizabeth, Perth Amboy, Woodbridge, Edison, etc. which are chock full of refineries and oil storage facilities.
That pipeline (name escapes me) from which the US moves oil through also runs there-abouts.
A large portion of the oil on this coast comes in through here and northern Delaware.

From: Waddington, NY (waaaay up north)
h. Even in filling stations which offer both self-service and full-service gasoline, customers are less likely, because of the much higher price usually charged for full service, to have attendants make needed maintenance checks, thus causing significant neglect of maintenance and danger both to the customers and to other motorists, as well as the unneeded costly repairs which often result from deferred maintenance.

This is my favorite one! So, if they allowed both self-service and full service, most people would choose self-service and then totally neglect their cars. What a crock!! What I read is the NJ legislators saying you NJ people are lazy! I've known a few people from NJ and they seemed fairly energetic.

That is the stupidest bunch of crap I have ever read!! I wouldn't let somebody check my tire pressure, so I'm certainly not letting them put gas in my car!

Everything in that law is false, and every other state is proof of that.

I suppose the people who work at oil change places should be the only ones to change your oil too? I mean, they ARE trained professionals, and NEVER mess up people cars. I'm sorry, but the people who work at those kinds of jobs, are not the people who should be doing anything remotely related to vehicles. And yes, I worked as a "lube tech" for 4 months. The stupidity from management down was just unbelievable, I couldn't handle it, it was just too sad.

Oh boy, this one has me fired up.

I hate when they pump it. At a NJ Turnpike stop I had 1 guy servicing 4 cars so it took me 4 times longer to enter & exit the gas station. Plus he screwed up my gas cap & I had to buy a new one. I guess that comes with their training. He also overspilled. I never do when I pump my own in PA. :bang:

How can you tell if the guy filling your tank was "trained" ? Do they cary a "pumping permit" . What a bunch of bull puckey ! I would have asked if the cop could pump the gas then. Is he trained and qualified ? Who is he to say you're not qualified ? What if you were the attendant and were pumping gas in your own car ? Where does it end ??

Do these "gas delivery specialists" also expect a tip? I'll bet they're even allowed to turn off the display before they tell how much it is! :nono:

WOW, what are they going to do when Hydrogen Vehicles come around? New Jersey will have to hire Rocket Scientists and engineers to operate all their "gas" stations!
I am an engineer maybe I can get one of those plush jobs! Being from NJ it is a stupid law because some poor guy that makes probably less then minimum wage is doing it and they take FOREVER! Do you think he cares how he treats your car? When I bring my Harley to refill, I always pump my own gas even if the attendant has to stand there and watch because you have to hold those new darn nozzles up for the gas to flow otherwise they scratch everything.

Lol, and just think, that cop probably went back to the station and was like "I tell you what boys, now I know why the law says we can't pump our own gas. Tonight I saw some dummy with the gas pump handle upside down on his car! He tried to brush it off and tell me that there was some kind of problem with his car that he had to do it that way or else it wouldn't pump gas. I KNOW he felt stupid when I told him he had it upside down though."

I cannot begin to fathom how much time that guy has on his hands to harrass you about your gas pumping technique. Out in my neck of the woods, you almost have to shoot somebody before the cops will even think about getting out of their cars.

I live in NY about 10 mins from jersey and it is a good 15 cents cheaper in nj where they pump it for you, so i go down there and just get out and do it myself, ive never had a problem.

even though I'm a firefighter, the cop still didn't care! I was wearing my Medford Lakes Fire Dept shirt, he didn't give a crap, but when i go to the pump and they take too long to fill me up, and they yell at me for it, I just tell them that Im a firefighter and I'm trained with this and to back off
