Subject: Mustang: Deactivation of Global Open Feature

Background:

The Global Open feature allows both windows to be opened using the remote keyless entry key fob, or opened and closed by turning the key in the driver's door cylinder.

Program Details:

All 2005MY Mustang Coupe and Convertible built after 1/1/2005 will have the Global Open feature deactivated. The feature will not be available either by the Key FOB or the door lock. This action was taken to resolve a potential quality issue that may cause the windows to inadvertently roll down without customer interaction.

great. One of the cool features I upgraded for by taking the additional security system. "Sorry, we can't make it work, so we shut it off". Nice.

What I don't understand is if the windows roll down at random via this module. And it's the same module that unlocks/arms the alarm. Wouldn't the doors also unlock at random? This seems strange! Since Ford has other vehicles with this feature, why would they just not fix it! This feature is very cool!

From what I understand this also disables the Central Locking feature (Locking the passenger door with a key in the drivers door). Used to arm the alarm without the motion sensor.

What is Ford planning on doing with people that love / use this feature and this module breaks under warranty? :bang:

The way the memo reads sounds like Ford is washing its hands of the problem and not even trying to fix the issue of windows rolling down inadvertently. I would love for the feature to work, but I also don't want the windows dropping by themselves. Are they working on a fix, or are they saying "Too bad for you"? Has anyone on this forum experienced the windows rolling down by themselves?

Wait a minute. I had my car built on 11/11/04 so I have this feature and it works. Now let me understand. I bought this car because I enjoyed its looks and several features. Ford stated it had certain features standard and certain features optional. The car has a warrenty on it. If something stops working or malfunctions they have to fix it or attempt to. They can't just deactivate it and say never mind. Forget about it, it doesn't exsist. There would have to be agreement or compensation. What would you do if your power door locks stopped working and there answer was "sorry don't use them anymore!" That's not a warrenty thats neglecting an obligation. Here is one for the trial lawyers. Any out there?

This is old news.

Here's a thread where people are getting it reactivated:

Well this is very true. My car was built May 3. And the feature has been "enabled" via the computer but still doesn't function!

Same here. Came back from the dealer yesterday, they activated it but ... still doesn't work. My car was built 02/26

I agree, but I wish you could roll it up from the key fob when those FL thunderstorms roll in.

It is possible that the problem is major enough to require a re-design. So in the meantime the feature was disabled so there are no more delays in Mustang production. I'd bet they still realease a TSB with a fix later on.

While I've never heard of the windows rolling up or down inadvertently with active anti-theft, my dealer "reactivated" mine when I told him about it during the PDI. Since the weather is getting warmer, this is a great feature to have.

I do wish I would roll the windows up via the remote, I really don't see any time that I'll have the widows down when I'm not in the car. So, no biggy!

I'll bet we never hear another thing about from Ford! :bang: And - I'll also a l m o s t wager it will not be in the MY06. Has anyone heard it would be included in 06? If so, they better fix mine

The point of being able to roll them down for me is that if your car is really hot, and you want it to vent for a while b4 you get IN the car, this option would allow you to do that. Not to mention its just "cool" to be able to roll them down while you're walking to the car. I know you can just open the door and do it with the one touch down for the windows, but its not as cool.

I'm just a little PO'd that they just dissabled it. Nothing from Ford about fixing it or anything, just a sorry, you can't have it. That attitude stinks from Ford!

This is exactly the kind of attitude that makes me want to look elsewhere. Way to go, Ford.

I dont have this feature but if I was one of you guys I would be looking for a lawyer at this point. I am not one to sue but I am not one to get screwed either. You guys paid for this option right? I would demand a refund and then proceed with the lawsuite if I did not get that refund. Once I sued I would not be suing for $500.00 or whatever that refund should be. I would be getting a new Mustang, court fees and attorney fees.

A simple sorry should not do it. If we miss a payment to Ford Credit on our Mustang a simple sorry would not do it. Right!?!

Let me tell you that if you gathered proof that Ford acknowledges this problem and has indeed stated that they dont have a fix nor will they have one for it you could get the best attorney with no upfront costs.

Actually the option they paid for was the Active Anti-Theft System(MSRP $255).

Was the remote window part of that package? Hey I'm not looking for a get rich situation or to be unfair to Ford, I just feel this should be fair to everyone. It is not like this is a feature that hasn't been on other cars for years. We are re engineering a feature that has not been done before.
