When the dealer was putting in my THIRD Shaker 500 they must have used a screwdriver to pop the pannel off around the head unit. Well to make a long story short on the vinyl part of the dash on the passenger side above the glove compartment they made two little nick marks. I noticed them while cleaning the car for a show. No huge deal but they kept catching my eye from the driver side so I brought it back and said they did it and the dealer said they would replace it. Well now he is saying thay they still will replace it under warrenty HOWEVER they need my car for two days b/c they have to replace the ENTIRE DASH as one piece and that it costs $1600 from Ford  I don't have to pay a dime but I am a little concerned with that much being taken out of my car. What do you guys think?

as long as they tighten everything down, don't miss any clips/screws you should be fine.

They know that you are a demanding customer and know you will be back if they do substandard work. If not, make sure they know.

Ouch, that hurts, especially if it wasn't under warranty. 1600 bucks though !!! That's 5 1/2 months worth of car payments for me.

If they bunged up the dash just removing the stereo, imagine what kind of damage they could do removing an entire dash! You may need a paint job by the time they're finished with this one

I had indeed heard that the dash is one big integral unit.

I would live with the nicks. No way I would let them take out the entire dash.

I was under the dash in mine the other day running some wires. If you take a look at the construction of the dash I bet you will reconsider.

Maybe they should learn how to take the radio out better, so things like this don't happen in the first place... I took mine out using a socket, a screwdriver (for screws, not for prying), and mostly my hands.

Just what I was thinking.

If you can live with the nicks, it may be worth not taking the chance of not screwing something else up.

Haha, wish I could take the cash! Anyway, I am not sure if I am going to go through with it. It just seems crazy to take that whole thing appart. It just freaks me out thinking they are going to pull it all appart like that

I had to completely remove the dash out my 98 Jimmy to replace the heater core. Yes it is a lot of work. I didn't have any damage and all is fine.

I did put a lot of moola down. I put 13k down on her. I got the money from a car accident that happened a couple of years ago that put me out of work for a year. It was one of those big gravel carrying trucks that shed rocks onto your car if you're following it.

The dash on 02 Escape got scratched by my Ford dealer when they fixed the stereo for the 2nd time. When I got it back the cruise control wasn't working and the horn wasn't working. When I went back my dealer had been replaced by another dealer and they wouldn't fix it.

I'd seriously give it a second thought.
