Getting back into mustang after 12 years. need advice

back in the day i had a 98 gt vert with a paxton charger. i left mustang cause i got into atv riding. Now i sold my 2006 f150 and getting back into stangs.

i went and drove a 11 gt coupe and a 08 gt coupe. and quite franky i like the 08's interior better. Dont laugh but the main reason was how much more hip, shoulder and knee room you had in the 08. Weird reason i know but im a bigger guy and i want to be comfortable.

Of course the 11 was faster(100HP will do that) and i could get a 5.0 but im looking for my next car. thankfully not in a hurry so i can not settle.

i want a 07-09 gt vert, 5 speed, low milage(<45K) with a non black interior(this is texas) and a non red exterior(i attract cops enough)

i did learn a lot with my 98 on how little bolt ons actually do. so im going to do exhaust, shifter, and a power adder(charger)

Anything i should look for while im shopping for my new ride?

on exhaust. i had off road H and flows on my 98. Still a good system? What brand h pipe?

on shifter, i had a pro 5.0 in 98. still one of the best for the money?

lastly on the supercharger. i will prob go centrifugal again. this car will be driven so i wont go rediculous on the boost. Vortech and paxton used to be the kits to buy. im thiking vortech. Any other kits i should look at? Also does 385-400rwhp sound reasonable on moderate daily driven tune?

One last question. what numbers should i look for on the leakdown and compression before i decide if its safe to boost.

thanks guys. sorry for the long read.

Personally I would stick to the 08+ 4.6L3V because they have the redesigned heads starting in Dec 07. The 07's and prior have problematic spark plugs that are difficult to remove because of carbon build up. Many posters report breaking them off trying to remove them.

As for the 5.0 I would stick with the 13+. The 11 & 12 reported a number of #8 piston failures as well as numerous shifting issues with the Getrag transmission so I would avoid those years. For 13 there is a redesigned piston and the trans received improved parts that seem to have resolved problems.

IMO

thanks.

yeah i had the plug issue with my 06 3v. i sold it before i actually got enough miles to change them. i have been looking for a later 08-09 gt. but my search may a few months to find one within a few hundred miles like i want with the fixed heads. Good thing is i have a friend that is a ford mechainic that has changed a lot of broken plugs. so im not as worried as i was before about them.

and ive talked myself out of getting a 5.0 cause the older ones have more interior room.

picked up a 06 gt vert 65K on the clock for 14000. She is bone stock. WAY to quiet.

i was going to put the pype bomb axleback along with the pype x offroad. but i may just try to see if the axleback is loud enough alone(im skepical). im not going to heavy mod this car cause of the miles on it. just enjoy it.

maybe put a 100 shot nitrous on it for fun in a couple months. and yes i will be getting the plugs change ASAP

prob put the hurst shifter on it.

does anyone run just the pype bomb axleback with stock mids. is it much louder and deeper than stock?

Hey man I'm in a 2006 redfire gt couple and got the black axle back pype bombs on mine with everything else stock completely changes the car it's an amazing exhaust sound, clean but still loud enough to turn heads. I would highly recommend it.

No problem, I'd go with the hurst if you're gonna go that route. Just put 4:10 gears and new wheels/tires on mine yesterday and it feels like a new car. But good luck the modding route is long and pricey $$$$ ;-)

It sounds good, is it overly loud..no. I've thought about doing more but I don't necessarily want more attention than I already get 😆
