I've seen some preliminary estimates showing 19 mpg city, and 26 mpg highway.
Of course nothing is set in stone, as these are only estimates. We won't know actuals until Ford releases those numbers.

i would guess around the same. i think the 3valve engine is supposed to be a little more fuel efficient...so probably 19-20 city, 24-26 highway. i would guess.

we'll know soon.

Do the current Mustang's require premium gas? My Ford Probe GT does and that gets quite expensive. I know I read the '05 Stang will not require premium.

My guess is that the 5 speed will be about the same as the 2004 while the 5 speed automatic might give it it a small increase over its 2004 slushbox predecessor.

Either way, it doesn't matter to me. I didn't buy a Mustang because I wanted to save money on gas.

27 freeway?!?!?!?

That's it! I'm canceling my order!

NOT.

i think we're a little late in this to be wondering what the fuel economy is.

It hasn't stopped Hummer sales.

That's because Hummer buyers live in a very different economic strata than most Mustang buyers.

You've got a point there.

If it's true that they only have 2 cats, that will save on some gas right there.

This is one of the best aspect of the new car for me. My old 4 cyl. turbo got worst gas-mileage that the Mustang is expected to get... and the bonus is that the Mustang won't have to burn premium. I feel like I'm becoming a tree hugger, and I'm going from 4 cyl to 8 cyl !!!! :spin:

i know what you mean. I'm going from a 2.4 litre 4 cylinder to the 4.6 litre V8. My wife's thinking "tree hugger for another reason"

From what my Mustang and Camaro owning buddies have told me, if you keep your foot out of it, you can get some decent mileage... that is a big big IF... especially the way I will drive it the first few months.

That goes for any car, but you're right, moreso for a V8.

With my PGT I can get 9L/100km or 14L/100km depending on my mood that week.

My 5.0 gets 17 around town and 22-24 on the freeway, depending upon my right foot. The new one will be much better, and because it runs on 87 octane, at today's gasoloine prices, that's equivalent to a 10 to 20 percent increase compared to cars that need premium.

Pretty darned good for a car that puts out as much hp and tq as the Mustang does.

I'd wager that if you put the 2005 Mustang against something like a Jetta or a Mini (not that they're in the same class) you'd find that monthly gasoline costs--given similar miles driven--would be less.
