Has anyone heard of or used the G-Tech Pro Performance Meter?
Here's a link to what I'm talking about: http://www.gtechpro.com/ss.html
It supposedly tells you 1/4 mile times, horsepower, torque, etc. I'm wondering how good this thing is, if it's worth $199 or if it's just a joke...

You can get one that does that for $30 on ebay, just much more simple, maybe slightly less accurate. Still the same concept

But yes they claim to be +/- .1 second

I have the G-Tech Pro RR, and it seems pretty accurate. I'm going to take it to a track to make sure, but most people I've talked with that tested theirs at a drag strip said it was always less than .1 seconds of the actual time, most of the time only off by .01, and the MPH was accurate, but read a couple MPH low.

The horsepower and torque readings are not very accurate. I got everything from 220 for my 305+ horsepower Titan to 330+ hp for my 300 HP mustang, so I wouldn't count on that.

But 60', 330', 1/8, and 1/4 times seem to be pretty accurate.

I use mine more for a tool to gauge if a mod has made a difference or not.

Hot Rod mag did a write up and found it to be pretty accurate, they were impressed with it. I've used one of the old ones that wasn't as fancy and it was cool, but kinda useless after about a day of cool factor since at the time I didn't keep adding mods to my old car.

How do these things work? From reading the website, it looks like it just connects to your cigarette lighter? If that's true, I can amagine how it can tell what's going on with the car, like speed, etc.

I sthat all you do. Just plug it into the cigarette lighter. Does it have a mounting bracket or anything. Or is it just a cord coming from the cigarette lighter?

It can't connect to the cigarette lighter to read engine output, etc. You have to connect it with the computer port under the dash so it can read what's going on. I used one of those (except a diagnostics tester) on my Grand Am before and my first car, Saab 9000 for diagnostics. I sometimes miss my old Saab 9000. She was a quick little one for my first car.

It's good to practice your launches and shift rpms when you can't always get to the track. This way you when you get to the track, you get your best times. It's also a good tool to see the difference in times when you add new mods. I have the GTech Pro RR and am looking to sell it because I want to put a d-pic in a pillar gauge pod (similar device). Anyone interested make me an offer. I bought it new 3/17 for $279.00. It's only been used a handful of times and I still have the box, all accessories, manuals and software. Mint condition. Can take pictures if you want.

The G-tech Pro RR just plugs into the cigarette lighter. It can read the engine RPM's from there. Supposedly, it's only performance meter on the market that can do that. The rpm is pretty accurate, within a 100 rpm. So it also gives you shift lights that are programmed to come on before you hit the rev limiter, pretty cool. You can set your rev limit to whatever, then program the shift lights to come on, I think at 250 before, and 150 before, different lights start to light up, then flash like crazy. It's pretty cool.

Yeah, I also use it to practice my launches, which are not good.

Putting on the new BMR LCA's, so I'll be back out testing again to see how less wheel hop helps me out.

it works by reading inertia. There is a device inside it that measures changes in direction and interprets that as acceleration, cornering and stopping. It then calculates the cars weight, etc. and formulates speed, hp etc. based on that.
