I believe you're probably right, makes sense, which is why I put "Short" of a recall, as in not as serious.

Its more of how the pump is set up rather then the car. I fill up everything imaginable and all cars do it from time to time 99% of the time its the pump. I guess you would say its a common problem to every kind of car sometimes. I get it more on cars if the fuel tank is very empty, vapor pressure triggers the pump to stop sometime, if its not the pump, you can hold the little flap open with the tip for a few seconds and try again.

A recall and TSB are completely different things, hence why they are called different things.

I just checked this poll again, and it's funny that it's exactly 50/50 now. I believe everyone's car has the problem, it's just a matter of where you get gas. I found a gas station that works for me... close to home, good gas, has 93 octane and no problems with filling... and I stick with that station. No problems with filling anymore.

I still don't understand waiting, but thats just me. Taking it to the dealer for a known problem with a known fix shouldn't be a problem. These mechanics are trained by Ford to perform the work that is indicated in the TSB. Right now, a 5 Star certified master tech is putting in my new fuel tank, I handed the keys to him myself. Yes, there is a *chance* that something could happen, but if it does, you can bet that they will be fixing that too. For me, it IS absolutely neccesary to fix the fueling issue. I do believe that having gas spilled all over me, the car, and the ground is a problem.

Well we should have a new poll to see if the problem persists after it's supposedly "fixed." I hear people still have problems after it's been replaced. Being able to put gasoline into a vehicle is kind of important. Why don't we ever hear of issues like these from Toyota or Honda?

Had mine for 4 months and 6k miles now. Had the fueling problem ONCE - a shell station near Toledo. I had to fill it by hand, because any auto setting would make it stop. Other than that, I've never had it. Incidentally, I usually fill up at Shell stations or Sunoco stations.

These problems are not near lemon law territory. In Ohio, in order to get lemon law recovery, the car must be brought in for the same problem at least 3 times, repaired, and have the problem crop up again; or the car must be taken in for repair at least 8 times for any problems that "substantially impair the use and value" of the car.

Other states probably have similar requirements.

These problems are unfortunately common in any first model year car. For example, I have a family member that has a 2004 Mercedes E320. They went to some fancy fiber-optic elecronic system for the stereo and navigation system, and it has gone out THREE times in just over one year. Kind of disappointing for how much that car is. (And, he had to replace all 4 tires at 25,000 miles... - service department said that's normal wear time).

After some people said they were getting their tanks replaced I called up my service dept today. They said Ford Engineers are aware of the problem but there isn't a new tank yet. He said for me to check back and he'd try to call back when a for sure fix is in. Is this BS or is everyone else getting BS'd?

Ponygirl if you dont mind IM me where u got ur car in the STL so I can call them about a tank and why my dealer is giving me the run around.

This is one issue I have been looking for to happen. I have had the car since Dec 16th and 3485 miles on the car. I have placed gas in the car numerous times and never had a problem. Does the problem with fillups you all are experiencing only happen when the car is on empty? If so I have not waited for the car to get to empty to fill it up. I think the lowest tank level was 1/8th when I filled it.

The one time I filled up (230 miles on the car now), it took 13.5 gallons, with about .1 of those gallons ending up on the ground. :angry:

Some people just like looking at it parked in the garage!!

Oh, and I had the slow fill problem 3 times in 10,000 km. I usually empty my tank (1/8 or less). The "slow fill/early shutoff" problem didn't act up until the tank was about 1/2 full and would only take dribbles at a time and then shut off. The second time I noticed that the car was angled a little bit uphill and the pump was faster than most. Never had a problem if angled level or slightly downhill. Informed my dealer when she went in yesterday. New tank is on order (they said two weeks) and a new Shaker 500 is going in tomorrow. Hopefully they checked for, and fixed, the missing bolt issue...

Adrenelin, your new tank and mine got put in on the same day. How long did they have your car? And have you filled it up yet? If so, is the problem fixed? They had mine all day and I haven't filled it yet, because the dealer filled it up for me.

I had the problem with fueling and it seems like it has gone away. I've got 3k on it now.

It's in for 3 other problems now.

1. Front end noise.
2. Passenger seat airbag always on.
3. After about 2 hours on the highway I exited, stopped at a stop light, when it turned green I stepped on the accelerator, and nothing happened. I let off the accelerator and stepped on it again and it took off like normal. That has happened twice, on the same trip.
