I know the switch is on the outside wall near the petals under the dash. Can this be used as a security. ie, turing it off before locking up the car.

to the best of my knowledge, the fuel pump safety switch is not one which can be turned off and on at one's choosing. When functioning normally the top surface will be smooth or flush. Upon a predetermined impact or collision, the switch shuts off the fuel pump to prevent fuel from spewing out (as in many cases the ignition switch is left on). If that's the case, a little nodule pokes out from the top of the switch which, when pushed back down re-activates the fuel pump. This is especially useful information if you have had a fairly serious bump in a parking lot without alot of noticable damage which could trigger the safety switch and you wonder why your car won't start. It's something that not everyone knows about to check.

Yup Derynf, gotta agree with you there. I guess you could make that happen with some slight mods. Only people perusing this site would know to check your car for the switch

I believe a thief wouldn't stumble over a fuel pump switch... you better get the active anti-theft system

Actually you can turn it off just by unplugging it. Or at least that's how it is on the ones in the trunk of the current models. I forgot whether or not the button pops out when you do that.

Neither will an alarm system. I think I'll rig mine up to give the person a nice high-voltage, low-amperage shock if they touch my car. That might just stop people from messing with it, hehe.

The only problem these days are some of the laws protecting criminals. I remeber hearing about a case in NY that had the Taser Club pulled from the market...

Yeah, as the lawyer told me in my CCW class, "If you are going to shoot them, make sure you kill 'em."

It seems a live criminal has more rights than a dead one, LOL. Sorry to derail the thread, carry on...

my uncle did that when he restored a 64 mustang. he put a fuel cutoff switch and an ignition cutoff switch hidden in the car. it was just two toggle switches, but they were very effective. it prevented the car from being stolen twice.

i think he had them hidden on the passenger side of the console that ran between the seats:

or maybe they were on the floorboard somewhere. i don't really remember. anyhow, they worked really well. but i think a lot of alarms can do the same thing now-a-days, right? i know mine kills my ignition.

lol. actually he sold the car a few years back. it was my cousins car when she was going to college at uc-davis, but when she graduated and got married he found a good home for it.

i wish he still had it though, it was a beaut.
