Fuel Filter...anybody change yet?
Fuel Filter...anybody change yet?
Anybody changed their fuel filter yet? What's the mileage to change one anyway? And is the thing accesible for us to change on our own?
I changed mine at 30k. It's covered up by a plastic shield on the driver's side of the frame rail, need to unbolt the cover to access it. It took me about 15 minutes or so to do it, you need metric deep well sockets and a ratchet. Once the cover is off, push the release buttons on the lines and they will come off.
yes, every 15,000 miles, fuel filter wasnt too bad to change, plus also change the cabin air filter @ 15,000 miles. I just changed mine the other day, boy was that easy, and they were gonna charge me $100 to put a new one in, what a rip off...

Check your owner's manual for the correct part (FG-1083?) RockAuto has them and you could buy them in bulk to stock up:

I'll order a couple up.
We never release the fuel pressure at work when chaging the filters. Just let the fuel drain into a pan.
15k sounds good to me. I have takin filters off at and before that milage and have been clogged up.

FWIW I never release the pressure either. For sh*ts and kicks, I once started up my Crown Vic and pushed the schrader valve to see how much fuel would shoot out. The engine was idling at about 800 RPM and fuel sort of dribbled out.
Wait a few hours after you've used the car and just pull the lines. Make sure you aren't smoking and to make sure there is no open flame nearby. This should be a 10 minute job max, why pay the dealership to do something so simple?
