I've had my car since dec. 15th. I got it over 100mph once kinda on accident but quickly adjusted out of fear of Johnny law.

Sure the car is tons of fun just cruising about town, but I really REALLY want to experiance the car, I mean, I've got really great handling and gobs of power but no place to enjoy it. I've driven late at night and always theres a police car cruising around or waiting at a side street to get me.

Then last night I thought I'd go over to this parking lot accross from work, it's secluded and empty at 1:30am, and just as I was scouting a nice doughnut spot a rent-a-cop comes rolling up. Not really afraid of them but was thinking he may call the police on me if I went ahead and had some fun or would have asked me to leave if I just parked and waited for him to leave.

I can't stand it! Sure I can do 0-40 in just a few quick seconds then I gotta settle down and drive the speed limit. Once in a great while I've been able to stand on it getting on the freeway and get up to around 80 before I have to back off and hit the brakes to fit in with the flow of traffic. The accelleration feels so cool but it's over too quick, I need a fix!!

:bang:

I am SO looking forward to a road trip to northern California in may, where atleast I will be able to take it on some less congested roads and maybe sneak in a little spirited driving on some coastal roads. One in particular comes to mind and I can't wait, just hope granny isn't in her cadilac doing 10mph. Last time I took a new car on that road, I was stuck behind a line of 3 cars lead by a bobbing purple haired ol biddy doing 15 on straits and 10 on the corners....

I wish there was more access to drag strips and other cheap, legal ways to get your kicks.

Your streets are that bad? I treat almost every turn like it's the race track when I am in my Porsche 914. Tires squeeling and rear end just about to step out. Unless traffic is bad, of course. Speed limits 45? Take your turns at that, I am sure the new Mustang can handle that most of the time. Or take it at 35 a roll onto the throttle as you are going through it. Bring it up to 55, 60, then slow down.

Where in SoCal? I know of a bunch of places you could wring it out. You'll have to get out of town a bit, but it's doable.

Driving fast late at night is idiotic. You are moving faster than you can see ahead of you... if that makes sense. You're going too fast and are unable to see potential obstacles ahead that might be hidden behind the darkness. Doughnuts in a parking lot? Are you an infant? Do you pay for your own tires? give me a break...

Nothing like smelling my own hard bought rubber. Or waking the neighbors when I start my car in the morning.

One quick road trip to Montana will cure those blues. Last I heard, a speeding violation is a $5 fine, paid on the spot to the police officer, no ticket. That is a crackdown from the brief (but OH SO FUN) period of time where they abolished speed limits during daylight hours.

Take a $20 bill with you and wring that thing out!

I used to live in Southern Ca, look at taking a trip out to the desert, near Victorville, Barstow area. lots of open flat roads you can find. Just look up for helicopters first!

I have a lot of trouble finding a place to open it up here in Georgia though, makes me miss CA.

Did you buy his tires? No? Oh, then I guess you shouldn't comment either.

If he isn't impacting on you, then mind your own business.

Unfortunaltey the days of the $5 ticket are gone. That was originally back in the 55 MPH days and was a ticket for wasting natural resources rather than speeding. I think above 95 they would write you a ticket for reckless driving.

These days MT has set the daytime speed limit to as fast as your car can safley go for given traffic and road conditions--the so-called reasonable and prudent limit. Last summer I cruised at 90-100 there on I-15 from the Idaho border until Dillion (probably 100 miles or so) and saw maybe 10 other cars the whole time--no highway patrol.

This link gives the full set of limits and fines ($70 to $500)
http://www.ibiblio.org/rdu/mt-law.html

Even with the changes, MT still is a great place to go for fast driving and great scenery! I'll be driving my GT up there for the 4th of July if it shows up in time!

Sammy Haggar said it best, "I can't drive 55".

Sounds like a trip to a track is in order.

BTW. Getting to the legal speed limit as fast as you can is illegal.

I bet if I were to pull you over for something small like not having a front license plate or for not using a turn signal you would want to tell me how to better spend my time catching 'REAL' criminals. :notnice:

Everyone here is old enough to drive however they see fit. They also know that there are consequences to pay if they screw up.

You might want to take a look at a more recent set of Montana Codes. Uncle Sam forced them to change the reasonable and prudent to a max of 75mph or less depending on the type of road.

The Feds cannot make the local police enforce the speed limit. I seem to remember the Feds getting p-o'd at Michigan for the average speeds on Rt 75.

If everyone is driving 75 with the speed limit 55, whats a local police officer to do?
