It's still a Lancer. I think it's funny how those that own a Neon SRT4 and they conveniently drop the Neon. It's like they are having an identity crisis. They can't deal with the fact that they indeed bought a Neon.

There's an understatement. Kinda like saying the Viper's still just a Dodge. I'd be willing to bet the Evo shares less than 10% of its drivetrain, suspension, brakes, and other controls with its econobox sister. I wouldn't mind the ho-hum interior (I like the exterior, without the wing at least) if I had a car that fun and fast.
In addition, I don't think I've seen any mention of the Evo's all wheel drive and ~300 lb. lighter weight. It might be even with the Stang in the straights, but I'd guess the Evo would be faster in nearly any corner.
Some of you need to open your minds about other cars. These two are competing in power and price, but nothing else...their purposes are quite different. One's a muscle car, the other a rally car for the streets. Comparing the Mustang with a Corvette might actually be more realistic.

Wow, you're cool.
just park them together in a parking lot and see which one people look at.
then tell him "you may be able to beat me on the road, but I have you standing still"
you know what? if you agree with him it will drive him nuts. trust me. Just nod and say, "yeah you probbably could take my stang" then just stand there and smile. he won't know how to respond to an agreement. I love doing that to people. cause really who cares? he has the car he likes and you have yours. at least you have cars that are cool. think about all those beat up honda's on the road. do you think those drivers wanted their car to be a eye sore to look at? be thankfull you can afford to have such a nice automobile, and don't ever take that for granted,

Tell your friend to come to Vegas and try his luck with Christine or VegasJay for that matter.

I had a EVO try to run me on the freeway a couple day's ago. Seemed like he lost steam (or nerve) after about 120 mph. I wasn't to impressed either way... He definately never pulled me at any time, and after a 100 I was gone. He can say what he want's, but I bet he never has topless dancers fighting over which 3 are going for a ride first.
LOL
Two words: Shelby Cobra.
Watch him crap himself when you tell him you're gonna be trading up to that - with it's 5.4 liter 32V supercharged 550 horsepower engine.
As the new American muscle car wars heat up, the Ricers are gonna be scampering for cover...wondering what's hit them.

How is that a challenge? At the end of the day, your friend is still driving a Mitsubishi. :notnice: More power to him.

Worst I ever get from my friends is wanting me to play Decoy in the yellow car.
The other night we went to hear a band...I was the DD.Did you know you drink soft drinks free? Yea boring, but I don't like hangovers or driving impaired.......
They were all like- take the yellow car out first, the cops will look at the flashy one first so we can escape.
And then what? Officer, sorry, But you can't get likkered up on cocola.....
A mistubishi is no contest for a fine fancy Ford Mustang- your friend must be jealous......

I love the "its just a Mitsubishi" comments. Using the same logic, I can say, the Mustang is just a Ford so whats special about that?
The Evo is ugly, but it is insanely fast and handles incredibly well.
I like the Evo 8 MR enough that I'm considering it and the STi, instead of the 05 Mustang GT, which still I have not been able to test drive. I've been able to test drive the Evo 8 MR, STi, the new just released Porsche Boxster S and even the new 911 Carrera S but not the Mustang. The Ford dealers here are a bunch of ****** and its turning me off to the car.

I actually like the evo, well except for the big wing on the back (ughh). It is pretty fast and is well built. With equal drivers I would give it to the Evo against an 05, but the one thing is, isn't the Evo in cobra territory price wise? and it has been my experience that with equal drivers the SVT cobra spanks the evo
Anyway, I will always love stangs, so don't let some dork talk trash, it is people like him that actually give decent import drivers a bad name.

I cannot reply on the other vehicles that you have driven because I have not. What I can tell you is the '05 GT is very, very fun to drive. Acceleration is great, road handling is great, shifting is smooth, er, great. The '05 Saleen, even funner in all aspects. I know, I know, incorrect English.
Don't let some hineyhole's get you down about a trully wonderful car.

Actually what you said doesn't make any sense. That analogy doesn't work, saying that the Evo is still a Lancer compared to saying a Viper is still a Dodge? Yes a Viper is a Dodge, i.e that's why they call it a Dodge Viper. And for that analogy to even work, I would of had to say that the Evo is just a Mitsubishi, which is not what I said. What I meant by saying it's still a Lancer has nothing to do with it's performance abilities. What I meant is it still looks like a Lancer, it's still a 4-door compact car. And your last paragraph about opening my mind? I wasn't comparing the Evo to the Mustang or any other car. All I said was it was still a Lancer, which it is.
It's a freakin' four cylinder people. A FOUR CYLINDER. How can anyone be proud of that? As I have said before, how many EVOs will be on the road in 50,000 miles? 15% if you're lucky. These little engines are only hot b/c of the crazy turbo and superchargers, etc that are strapped on them. I want anyone to give me an example of a 4, or even a 6 cylinder with turbo or supercharging that you still see running around in mass. You don't. Small, forced-intake engines simply stink. Here we are comparing a large, naturally-aspirated engine to a little turbo engine. There is really no comparison. I agree with what one person said earlier. It is more correct to compare the Stang to a Vette. Two cars with real engines, no turbo or supercharging crap. The EVO doesn't belong in that comparison for sure, because it is a lesser automobile.

Also the ladies love the mustang, they think the evo is just another econo box.

These discussions are so stupid, seriously race him or don’t. What ever the out come who cares. People take this stuff way too seriously. Just enjoy your ride and let him enjoy his. As long as it's not some ricer car with a big fart can, I can respect it.
The EVO is fast, expensive and ugly. If that is all you want, you will be very happy with that car.
Me I want the Mustang because it is a total experience for me. It might be a half second slower then the EVO, I don't care and will never know because I don't race on the street. I want the car that everyone from 8 to 80 years old recognizes from a block away. This is the car that inspires total strangers to tell you about the Mustang they had as a kid or the Fox body in their garage that they hope to restore. This car has a colorful and diverse history, it has a soul. You can be 18 and pile on the mods to squeeze out that last drop of performance. Or you can be 50 and just enjoy the handling, performance and smiles. The Mustang is a positive and trusted American icon recognized around the world. And you get all that tossed in for free when you lay down your hard earned money for this car. How cool is that?
