My friend has a 2004 evo and keeps on talking trash about the 05 mustang
He says the evo would destroy the stang in a race bercuase it has some turbo charge thing and itsa much lighter
What can i say back that would make him seem like hes an idiot?
Or is he right?

The Evo: 0-60 in just under 5sec
The Mustang: 0-60 in just over 5sec
The Evo: 4cyl. Turbo...built for short term power
The Mustang: V8...built for long term power
The Evo: Engine in a box...no style
The Mustang: Modern yet retro...dominating appearance and style
The Evo: Boring interior...again no style
The Mustang: Just awesome!!!
Anyone can modify a lancer to make it into an evo....it's like modifying a cavalier or neon, whereas the mustang is a true muscle car....hmmm...modifed 4 door sedan? or true built from the ground up muscle/sports car?

The 2005 EVO has 276 hp, 286 lb. ft., and weighs 3219 lbs. The mustang doesn't give up a lot to it weight-wise. I would imagine the addtional torque of a real engine rather than a turbocharged lawnmower engine would probably carry the addtional weight with no problem. The best road test I have found put the EVO at 5.1, so at best it ties a GT, doesn't blow it away. Add the other intangibles, like styling, endurance, and price, and the GT wins hands down. I honestly cannot understand why anyone would spend 30k on a four-cylinder. I mean, just get a real car. Anyone can get crazy hp out of an engine if they force the air/fuel into it. Good luck with a small I4 holding on for thousands of miles when you are putting that kind of stress on it.

The EVO is not my cup of tea, but there is a market for it I guess. The styling falls way short of the Mustang, but that is my opinion. How safe is that car? Any crash tests been done on it? Sure it has all wheel drive but it looks like it would fold up in a crash. I too wonder how long that engine will hold up after several thousand miles of hard running with that turbo. Also that several thousand dollars that I saved on the Mustang will be put to good use. Last thought, I could care less whether or not the EVO MR would kick my booty on a street race, street racing just leads to a lot of potential headaches and is a :nono:

It just doesn't matter. YOU'VE GOT A MUSTANG! THEY'VE GOT AN EVO. You win because you are smarter, made a better purchase and have a way better looking car! What are you gonna do with the extra .1 second anyway?

Here's what you do:
Park your car next to his. Then say: "OK, now look at yours, and look at mine."
Then you start and rev your car. "Listen to mine, and listen to yours."
Then, for the grand finale, you show him how much you paid. Then say: "Shall I continue?"

Just bring up these 3 points to him and see what he says after that:
1- ask him what hes going to do after he races the car, talks about it online, and goes in for service to find out his warranty is voided
2- ask him where hes going to go after his car company goes under
3- ask him what hes going to get after he blows his engine trying to modify it more than it already is ( I know 2 brothers who both blew their engines because they put bigger turbos and didnt up the fuel delivery, but only added 4 psi)
See how he answers you now.

an evo is quick, no doubt...quicker than an sti when stock in my personal experience
i raced one from 25-65 when i was bone stock, with 2 people in the car. the evo had intake, and turbo-back exhaust. it was a dead heat toss-up race no winner, even with 500lbs less weight (lighter car + 2 fewer people) AND a six speed. now i got 4.10s and i met him again 2wks ago...he lost by half a car length from 20-50.
from a stop it probly would have been dead even, and the faster u go the more the stang wins out because more hp to the wheels.
moral of story: no replacement for displacement, and dont fear the gear
other moral: dont race on the streets...friend got pulled over last wk for wasting his time with a punk in a mazda3...the kid talked poo, friend dusted him, cop gave him a nice lil exhibition of speed violation

It's still a Lancer. I think it's funny how those that own a Neon SRT4 and they conveniently drop the Neon. It's like they are having an identity crisis. They can't deal with the fact that they indeed bought a Neon.
