Ford offering HD Radio retrofit soon...

I'm assuming that this retrofit will also work with the Mustang. Sounds good, pun intended.

The retrofit is probably around the cost of a satellite reciever but you don't have to pay a monthly charge. After the initial cost it's free. XM is starting to put more and more commercials on its channels. Where's KC with the cost of this?

Sirius is definately better, you guys should check out Covino and Rich's show on Sirius 108, They are absolutely hysterical.

Actually Sirius is now so compressed that even low bitrate MP3's sound better. The dynamic range is terrible, and the cost will continue to rise. Programming is decent, though.
HD Radio isn't as compressed, but suffers from the "CLear Channel Syndrome", in that they still only play normal radio tripe- it's just cleaner sounding. I want a way to pick up the digital music stations that I get from my cable company in the car. It is still compressed, but it's clean and commercial free.

My biggest problem with Sirrius is the continuous dropouts every time you drive near a tall building, under an over pass or under trees, which is pretty much everywhere in Houston. I have had several rental cars with Sirrius installed and usually just give up and turn it off in frustration. Regular FM radio is FAR better in my book. HD Radio would be a feature I would love to add to my Shelby. And no wart on the trunk lid.

My best guess is $300, tops. I don't think the other electronic accessories Ford is offering are any more expensive...
I love Sirius, that's for sure, but I would like HD Radio as an option, too. I just like more options...

Anyone have an idea of how far the HD radio signals travel? I live out a ways from the city. I still get good regular FM signal, but I don't know if the HD would be strong enough out here to make it worthwhile.

I'll stick to my .mp3 CDs. I rarely listen to FM stations and when I do it's usually filled with some egotistical DJ, who think their God's gift to South Carolina radio. I rather avoid the crap, even if it's crystal clear, and just stick to my CDs.

yeah, the same 5-10 stations playing the same 40 songs over & Over & OVER again...
But it's something worth checking into, been considering Sirius myself.

The sound quality of XM/Sirius has kept me away. It lacks any sort of range. For $13 a month it had better sound pretty good. I haven't heard HD yet, but this is a promising development.
