Is Ford cutting off some Mustang SE's?

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/04/i...tang-packages/

The proliferation of Mustang variants over the past few months (weeks?) has become an internal joke at Autoblog. Regardless whether these special editions are FoMoCo developed or birthed from the aftermarket, it's gotten silly. The proposal addresses the vast expanse of options, be it color choices or trim packages, and seeks to reign in the thousands (we've counted) of configurations available in both the V6 and V8 Mustangs. Ford execs maintain that it does little for the pony car and merely confuses customers. We tend to agree.

The realization that there are too many choices for many of Ford's models came to Mulally when he went to purchase an Econonline for his mother's senior center. The philanthropic head of Ford was met with 185 different options, and he understood that decisions like that do little to ease customers into the brand.

Implementation of this new edict will come quickly and will likely involve packages that make it easier for consumers to choose what they want and for dealers to keep the right products in stock for their region.

Its a blog. You are reading what one of 300 million Americans decides to type up on the internet. I agree that many of Ford's models have way to many options(theres over 60,000 ways to configure an F-350), but I don't think there are too many factory Mustang options. V6, GT, GT with C/S package, SGT, and GT500 are it from Ford. You def don't want it to be like Acura where your choices are 8 colors and nav or no nav. I think the Mustang is about dead-on with the number of choices, some other products though are just out of control with configurations. Maybe he's jealous that the Mustang has such a juggernaut of a following with the aftermarket.

+1 here. It's a **** Blog!! they are idiot's with no one who will listen to them face to face. Confirmed by post #5. what a jerk. Mustang is the only thing with any guts that is keeping Ford alive. The F-150 has seen its day's as the front runner, and the Edge came out too late to take over that market share. Looking at trimming Mustang is the dumbest thing yet!!

I wouldn't say anything bad about F150, the newest Tundra is still 2 more generations behind it in build strength. Tundra now has finally caught up to 1997 American trucks.

F150's have had that power for years. Toyota just hired the right ad company. Ford's ads for the F150 suck, comparatively, but Ford could have easily ran the same ad 10 years ago. They just suck at advertising.

I agree about Mustang options. I think there's just the right amount. Actually, I'd like to see more SE's. And something your average person can afford. They need a GT350 is what they need. The Bullitt and the Boss will have too low of production numbers to be had at a decent price. But a GT350 would be perfect.

I only wish Ford dealers would order more without spoilers. I couldn't take the wait, so I had to take a car from the lot. But I would have killed to find one with a spoiler delete.

well actually GM & Ford are comptemplating a suit aginst them for that See-Saw commercial. They failed to mention the trailer had electric brakes and also mislead in the capacity application.

Now as far as picking on the F-150. Believe me I love the truck, and have had them. And will again. But it needs a face lift to survive. Chev & GMC, did it, now Ford has to, and soon.

That might not be a bad thing. That way Ford could include more stuff that is currently "options" into the base package. Increasing the number of units with more features will decrease the overall cost of those features. Hence giving the buyer more for their money. Sure you might get some extra stuff you might not want but I'm tired of the Mustang carrying the feature set of a late 90's car. They are finally catching up with things like HID, Navi, etc.

Whatever....Mulally did NOT purchase an Econoline...He said..."yeah, you can have one" and someone else picked out the options.
