Don't knock them because it is a good show. I think we could find something worse for the Forbes reviewer.

Well, my new 2006 V6 Premium which is being built this week has the Torch Red exterior with the Red Leather interior, and I still definitely want it. Yes, I'm a pocket-protector tie-wearing Engineer who has worked at Boeing for 25 years, and I laugh on the inhale! I think the car is the right thing to do. It has a personality, and that is a good thing.
Life is too short to be boring, don't you think?

BTW, if you want to flame Dan Lienert.

He looks like a dork

All the reasons he gives for not buying a Mustang are all the reasons I DID buy the Mustang. THis guy wouldn't know what to do with such a car (comparing it to a Honda?).

Personally, I wear a tie in my Musatng all the time. All the valet parkers (as well as onlookers) fall all over themselves to look at it and ask questions about it.

What a dweeb.

Yeah, but when he insults over 100,000 consumers by calling them "dorks" that sacrifice their dignity when they drive their "cheesy" cars, he becomes a donkey.

I'm one of the 40-something guys that bought a GT because I'd been waiting for it for 30 years and could finally afford it, as well as the 535, the XJS or the C6 'Vette.

I got the GT because I don't need the GPS nav or the heated seats, of the drop-down DVD for the kiddies. heck, I don't even *have* kids!

I simply have better things to do with my money than spend it on something that will impress the neighbors. The only people I have to impress are myself, my wife and a *very* few others.

And to tell you the truth, the car impresses the neighbors more than the 325i down the street.....

When was the last time you saw psuedo luxo's or luxo sedans in on a street cruise or road trip, or at a car show with the hood up showing off it's engine? Those cars are made for people interested in showing them off in their driveway or the parking lot at work to impress other people with how much money they have. It's about status - regardless of price tag. The Mustang is made for people who drive, have fun doing it, and sharing the experience and love of cars with others.

Take the average conversation (I'm guessing) at the country club - "Is that your new Lexus?" "How much is your lease payment?" (to size up one's cash status). Oh, so...how's the (wife)(business)(kids)...

Average conversation between two muscle car owners -"So what's your ET? HP? Torque? How'd you do that? " And they'll go on, maybe for hours, still talking about cars. The Mustang and others of its ilk are for car people. Readers of Forbes are not car people, they're money people and they make cars for those people too. Which I think are cheesy with their plastic woodgrain interiors, gold plated trim and champagne metallic paint jobs. And I think they're for dorks, too.

So there.

Oh, and uh, I don't think Ford advertises in Forbes, but I'm sure Lexus and Acura do. Way to go Dan, keep the bankroll happy, you sellout.

You notice - he said it was for dorks. Maybe what it really was is that he felt like a dork driving it. Maybe because he couldn't hide behind some $40-, $50-, $60K or more piece of status symbol to cover up his insecurities anymore it brought out the true American Dan Lienert, which is a brainwashed bourgeois idiot.

Ding, ding, ding!! Someone who was thinking exactly the same two words as me.

So a magazine writer doesn't like the Mustang. Whoop-de-doo. He is clearly in the minority. But that does not matter either. Unless you buy your cars to impress others (as the writer clearly admits to doing). I have to make the payments, so the only person I am trying to make happy is ME.

The day when I drove into my dad's driveway with my new '05 GT was the first time he says that he has ever been envious of his son. (My parents didn't know about the car in advance.)

My dad now owns an '04 Cadillac CTS-V (new, though a year old) because it combines the luxury of a Lexus with the power of a 400HP Corvette. He gets many compliments on his car, but he also got tons of attention when he drove my car to work to show it off to his coworkers. They all wear ties/suits and work big money deals every day, and far from it being dorky or disgraceful, they all thought it was great, and my dad took it to show off.

I cannot afford a CTS-V or many of those other high-end vehicles, but I think that the Mustang is far ahead of them in terms of pride. If you drive a car for social position, then you aren't interested in the car itself, and the BMW toilet would suffice. Everyone on these boards drives a Mustang because they are proud of themselves and their car, and that is priceless.

Even when I can afford Corvettes, Porches and whatever else, I plan to keep my Mustang, because it is the first car I ever truly admired and wanted for myself. Prior to my ownership of this car, I often wondered why people wanted cars like that, when my 4-cylinder S10 got me around just fine. I still don't understand it, but I don't drive the S10 for anything but utility any more, because I just plain love being in my Mustang.

This Forbes guy doesn't care about his cars the way we do, no matter how much more he may spend on them.

This guy's written a few elitist car articles. All of them make me sick.

Just read 'em to get mad I suppose. This guy and his ilk are the kind that shun populist things. For the stinking masses and all that. Dislike something simply becasue more than two people say its cool. Its is in every $$$ bracket, tho. GOD I hate elitism. The people who can't abide anything because its not cool, usually die alone. So rejoice stinking masses.

Have have a friend who picked that up in a Google search. He unloaded on the dude in an email. I wish I had it..He managed to use "braggadocio" and "wankerism" in the same sentence. Now THAT'S flaming.

I was gonna say, don't tell him you used a Google search, as that's what poor people do to find things on the internet! Oh and the internet!! Don't get me started. That's SO last decade!!

Hahahah...******.

I partially agree with that "who cares" comment... However, Forbes editors had the audacity to publish an article that seemed to be written with an underlying loathe for the car, for whatever reason. Not only did the article insult the owners of America's car, they practially insulted Ford for building an affordable performance vehicle. God forbid the Average Joe has a car cooler than the Lexus advertised on pg 4 of their magazine.
