Forbes Writer Rips '05 Mustang
Since he compared "luxury" 4-door sedans with a 2-door convertible sports car, you knew right away he had a bias. Two different target audiences, entirely. Why would someone consider a 4-door if they want a convertible? Why would someone consider a sedan if they want a sports car? If he'd done sports car to sport car comparison or convertible to convertible comparison, it would at least be a level playing field. But, oh wait, he can't since there are NO OTHER cars in the market that can compete with the Mustang on price and performance.
As far as the Mustang not be appropiate for upscale events? Where's that thread where the valets parked the Mustangs up front with some Vipers to show off what they considered "cool" cars?

I totally agree... one of his comments was something like, "Why wouldn't Ford build a car that commands $40,000?"
Uhhh because the Mustang is for people that can't afford that crap you friggin dip-wad!

I don't know what the reviewer was thinking when he wrote this. I sold my 2003 Accord Coupe EX 6 speed for my Mustang. They both are around the same price and yes the Accord came with more goodies including a Navi but it was no where near the same driving experience.
Now as for the Mustang being a redneck car it did have that status. People from all walks of life I talked to would say it but have changed their tune with the 05. This new Mustang has brought respect back to the Mustang name. With that said I can't tell you how many times I've pulled up to a bar/club in Baltimore and have gotten a ton of positive comments. My Accord was customized and looked sharp but the Mustang brings ton of attention where ever I go.
Oh, on a side note I work for one of the financial companies Forbes writes about and is in that circle. I can’t tell you how many traders, portfolio managers and other big wigs were excited about my Mustang when I got it. Even the Euro car snobs gave it props.

i can see where this guy is coming from, sorta. my dad has a 2004 lexus es330. its comfortable, rides nice, and is pretty peppy where you need it. most of the comsumers that purchace one of these are in the 55+ age bracket. along with other high-end Japanese and european cars. why? cause they can afford them. they want somthing "refined" or "elegant". most of them would pay to drive on thier living room couch if they could. i dont think there are to many 16+ yo reading forbes (unless they are some sort of young entropnure (sp)). but when when i got my firsty mustang, i didnt buy it cause it was some sort of euro/Japanese techno gadget filled computer on wheels. i got it casue it was fun, fast and a head turner. when was the last time you saw an old guy pulling up to the light nex to some sports car and reving the engine in his brand new toyota camry? the last time i checked, mustang was never made to be some sort of luxury car. sure you can refine it and make it comfortable and all, but when it comes down to it, its just a fun all out tire burning sports car
. So, Mr. Dan Lienert, you drive your refined and luxurious cars, drive em till your lease is up. Ill spend my time behind the wheel of my Mustang. besides..if you didnt buy your fancy shmancy yacht on wheels, who else would i have to humiliate at the nex t stop light

What a ******. I have no problem with reviewers trashing the cars I own. What is unusual is the obvious distaste he holds for anyone who was not born with a silver spoon in their mouth. He says "we" a lot in the article. Does the magazine share his attitude about "the little people"? Very unprofessional.
I think that's one of the funniest reviews of a product I've ever read, but what does he do for an encore?
Point out Coors beer doesn't combine well on the palette with beluga caviar?
Ask why Casio doesn't charge $1000 more and refine the looks of their popular G-Shock watches so as to compete head-to-head with Rolex?
This guy totally and shockingly clueless. It almost seems he's offended that the great unwashed masses of commoners have an affordable auto with some style available. He'd fit right in to the Monty Python "Upper Class Twits" sketch

This is probably the "old man with hat " type doing this artical he won't get it .Well into his 50's and set in his ways he just won't see it .
Bill Clinton had a 68 mustang vert and shared it with his brother ,he got it as to what its all about and became the president .
Need I say more

You know, I can afford any of the cars he talked about without a problem. I could afford a Porsche if I wanted it (though it would involve some negotiation with the wife).
I chose the Mustang. Why? Because it's a beautiful car that flies and has the classic styling I've loved since I was a kid. I've wanted a Mustang since I was 16 and decided to buy a new one because I didn't want the maintenance work that goes along with regularly driving a classic car (my decision was between 70 or older or a new one).
Do I wish Ford had spent a bit more on the interior and it was leather instead of plastic? Well, yeah. BUT I can play with the interior and electronics goodies aftermarket, you tend to get higher quality gear that way anyways. My car will probably be refitted with Alpine and Katzkin before I'm done with it.
This guy simply does not get it. The point of cars like the Mustang and the Vette is that they're fun. They're not status symbols, they're for enjoyment (and before anyone asks I didn't look at the Vette much, even though my father in law is a Chevy dealer, because I didn't want a 2 seater).

How can someone think a dedicated platform is 'cheesy', when rebadging an econo sedan and call it 'luxo' with a bunch of best-buy gizmos is the epitome of being cheezy. They remind me of the 80's Japanese cars that had gigantic tape stripes and "TURBO" stuck on them-back then they just kept a few spots from rusting through. I didn't expect much from an ubernerd yuppie's article anyway. All of his 'values' for other makes is on his perceived ability to please his peers instead of functioning on his own brain, which is already thoroughly washed... Its pathetic that super-proffit rebadged asian imports have become so 'hip' to own for those that only follow.

I searched before this post, but thought this may be of interest to everyone out there. I saw this on another forum and was interested to see what this guy had to say. Being a biased Mustang owner, I can't agree with anything in his article:

Give it a look. I'm looking forward to the comments.

Nearly Correct..He is the Upper Class Twit Of The Century!!!
"Instead of paying homage to the past with such gusto, we wish Ford would spend its time developing a truly outstanding, world-class, cheap sports car, instead of a sports car that just ends up feeling cheap."
What the heck does that mean? We want a cheap sports car that doesnt feel cheap? Ummmm ok....pretty sure that's what they did. I thought the interior felt 10x better than previous years.

. Also, I would like to know, after seeing his picture, how old is this guy, 12, LOL? This topic can never get beat to death. I just love reading all the posts from us. It is making me laugh my *&^ off. Mods, please DO NOT move this topic to general vehicle, it will get WAY MORE hits in the 2005+ section. The worst part about his warped review of the car is the many, many times he contracdicted himself about the things on the car. A car with red seats looks BAD. I guess the SLR, and Enzo, which have or can have red leather seats, looks bad. I would give almost anything to own one of these, and they have Red interiors.
Also, Dan, a BASE Corvette coupe starts at $43,700, and the Base Corvette Convertible starts at $50,700. When is the last time you have EVER seen a BASE Vette on a dealer's lot. It would be the first time. You can't get a Vette for anything less than $45,000 coupe, and $52,000 "vert, with options. This guy has NO CLUE WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT!!!!!
. Let the Flaming continue
What an A-hole
. If he didn't like the red how about triple black?
In 10 years the Mustang will be worth more than either of the Lexus
models he mentions and still coveted by many of their owners.

Intelligent, but not very smart.
Seriously, how can you compare an inexpensive sport car to a luxury sedan? How can you publish an article that labels 100,000+ people as "dorks" driving cars that sacrifice their dignity? Just like the Ford spokesperson stated, this car is not supposed to be an Acura or Lexus, it's a Mustang. It's not built for image or aristocracy, it's built for fun. Not everyone needs a $40k recliner with a navagation system. I don't need my car to tell me where I'm going, I just want to have fun getting there. Use some common sense, the Mustang is a blue collar car, not a Mercedes-Benz luxury sedan.
