Floor air - are you getting 100% of it?

I noticed that when I have my air turned to the cabin, it blows 100% into the cabin. When it's on defrost, 100% at the windshield, like it should!

But something I noticed and it kind bothers me is that when it's set to floor it blows 50% floor, and 50% windshield.

I'm not saying 50% speed, I mean 50% volume of air blowing.

WTH???? Shouldn't floor blow to the floor? Is this normal? Cabin blows to cabin.

It doesn't matter whether the ac is turned on, air period blows at 50% floor/windshield.

If you search the Warranty and Service Issues, this has been been an issue since the car came out and Ford has not issued a fix (that I am aware of)

One of the "tricks" to change it from 50/50 is to set the control to off, wait 3-5 seconds and then move to Floor only. This seems to give about a 75/25 mix. It helped keep my feet warm last winter. The 50/50 mix seemed like it was burning my face while my feet froze.

You guys actually have floor vents? My 2005 GT has no floor vents at all, even though it has a setting on the vent controller dial for floor only. When I set it to floor only, it blows 90% to the windshield, nothing to the floor. The remaining 10% comes out the dash vents. According to other posts I have seen, there are a lot of other '05's out there with no floor vents. I have not seen a recall on this yet. Has anyone heard anything new on this issue?

I have reported issue to Ford engineering, but have not heard any action at this time. If and when info becomes available I will update.

Here's the FORD message regarding this issue:

Ford Special Service Message 18284:

18284 2005 MUSTANG - HIGH AIRFLOW FROM DEFROSTER VENTS WHEN IN FLOOR OR FLOOR/DEFROST MODES

SOME 2005 MUSTANGS MAY INTERMITTENTLY EXHIBIT HIGH AIRFLOW FROM THE DEFROSTER VENTS WHEN OPERATING THE CLIMATE CONTROL IN THE FLOOR OR FLOOR/DEFROST MODES. ENGINEERING IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THIS CONDITION. TO TEMPORARILY RESOLVE THE CONDITION, TURN THE CLIMATE CONTROL PANEL CONTROL TO THE 'OFF' POSITION, THEN TURN IT BACK TO THE DESIRED MODE. DO NOT ATTEMPT REPAIR UNTIL A NEW SERVICE PROCEDURE AND/OR PARTS ARE RELEASED.
MONITOR OASIS FOR UPDATES.
