Pretty nice product but I like the Homelink system built into my rear-view mirror.
Is that offered thru Ford?

I believe this is the same thing as what I have (#16):

http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/timeline/0...stangc1-006.jpg

It's available as a dealer installed option.

Yeah, all you gotta go is press the little button on the bottom edge of the mirror and up goes the garage door. It will control up to three remote devices so if you ever need to say, have access to someone elses garage (parents or in-laws for instance), you can program one of the other buttons. Programming is very easy. It "learns" from your remote. It also has an autodimming feature so when people with brights on or trucks with lift kits come up behind, you don't get blinded. There's also a compass built in but that's not as important to me as the first two features.

It came on my car as part of a factory package! Also, it has the auto-dimming feature which is very handy. I woud pay extra for one if it hadn't come on my car from the factory.

However, it's interesting that you quote $350. It's only $277 from a Mazda dealer and even cheaper if you order from this place:

Does the $350 include installation?

Pretty interesting but my garage door openers came with a small keyfob transmitter so I don't have one of the big bulky ones that clip onto the sunvisor.

I'm surprised I haven't seen any visor "upgrades". My town car is a 96, but its visor has 3 garage door remotes built into it, vanity mirror and even a second visor under the first one to block the glare on the side and front - surely theres enough ppl out there that would want this and a vanity mirror for the product to be made?

Tom Servo (love MST3K, btw) said you can get them at a mazda place - those will fit/work on a mustang?
Edit: clicked on the link he gave, and dang that looks slick - plus a compass? my mirror dims, but not automatically, and that compass would come in pretty handy for me (always using aol driving maps). Coud you install this yourself, or would the dealer have to put it in?

I can't say for sure but the ones in Mustangs look identical to the one in my Mazda6. There's nothing Ford or Mazda specific about it that I can think of except that they there may be a difference in they way they're mounted.

EDIT: If I get time, I'll stop by one of the local Ford dealers and compare my mirror to Mustangs. I'm betting since they Mustang and 6 are built on the same line, the mirrors are identical.

This is the link where I found it atFord dimming mirror
It actually lists it at $383.00 not including installation. It looks just like the one one the Mazda link and the mazda price definitly something worth more consideration.

Looky, looky what I found (you need Acrobat reader to view):

http://www.gentex.com/pdf/models_packages_2004.pdf

It appears that a company named Gentex is the supplier of these mirrors to Ford and Mazda (as well as a few other brands). That lends a little evidence that they're the same mirror.

Sorry PG, won't work for me. I have a long steep driveway with a 90 degree turn at the bottom. I simply hit the remote when I turn in to the driveway and the door is open when I get to it. No waiting to make the turn and line up the headlights to activate it to open. Nice Gimmick though.

A lot of things that were said in this topic are wrong. You don't need to "line up" your headlights to aNYTHING in order to get it to open up your garage door. There is a garage opening unit installed in ur car with a wire to your high beam flasher that get the opener to activate when you flash your high beams twice. There is NO LIGHT SENSOR involved. Also, it is completely secure, as the fact that you're flashing your high beams ISNT causing the garage to open, its the signal the flashing sends to the opener unit that's doing it. All in all, its a cheap and better replacement to a standard second garage door opener unit.

PRICE DROP!!!
Just checked the Mazda link above, now only $225!
If possible, I wonder how difficult it would be to install on the Mustang??!!??
I have four remotes to keep track of now.

The news keeps getting better and better.

I'm not sure on the difficulty but that is one awesome gadget and that is #1 on my options list.

Providing they mount the same, the only problem is getting power to it. I still need to take a look at an '05 to see if the mirrors mount the same as my Mazda.
