It makes sense that it was a test vehicle.. hence the ok on the drivers seat. Means it passed the test. As painful as a sight to see... I'd rather they did these test as opposed to some father of 2 kids being the lab rat. My 2 cents

Buy side curtain airbags. EVERYONE

There is no reason not to. Some idiot can hit into you without you even moving or having it not be your fault at all. I don't see why your life is not worth 400 bucks.
you can't get curtain airbags, just "regular" side airbags

the car does, though, definitely look like a test car. if the accelerator is stuck all you have to do is press the clutch, brake, and that's it. maybe that "the accelerator was stuck" was referring to the car that crashed it, but that wouldn't leave such weird marks on the door. I believe it's definitely a side impact test mule, note the interior (that's light blue isn't it?) and the OK label

A few years back there was a rash of lawsuits by morons claiming that the accellerator stuck and that's why they ran into a garage, ran over a kid, etc., then they sued the automaker for their incompetence.

In every case they claimed that they were standing on the brake, but the car just had too much power and a mind of its own. So a couple companies did tests. They took the car up to 55 mph, then floored the gas and the brake at the same time.

In a battle between brake and gas (and momentum), it wasn't even close. The cars skidded to a stop. Proving the complaints were full of sh*t. They were standing onthe wrong pedal. Still, they often won lawsuits (the losers lottery) against car companies, by the dumb jurists.

Some of the biggest problems in this country have to do with litigation, and we desperately need tort reform (caps on liability). Something the Democrats have blocked for 20 years. I've heard a few numbers as to how much more your car costs because of that liability (usually a few hundred dollars), on top of your insurance costs which are also higher. Kerry appointed a tort lawyer as VP. Just something to think about this election season, and to think about when seeing a thread where someone claims they were standing on the brake but the car raced away from them.

Hi, Boys and girls. I’m the original poster of this story. I just want to say that this is the real deal it was a accident. This is NOT a test car.

I know in New York state where we do not have tort reformin place it costs every resident 800-1000 per year in higher costs. Higher costs such as auto/home insurance premiums, when you buy a product and if you buya new house liability insurance can add between 5,000-30,000 per house. Trial lawyers yuk!

If that car belongs to someone, they will be getting it back, that car is not totaled, a few weeks in the shop and it will be back on the road.

Boss Hog... Yeah, there was CBS one. There was a couple similar expose's on Volvo's as well (brake-gas). I remember a few against Cadillac (brake-gas). And I remember a Japanese import getting attacked for a while as well. (Honda?). In Volvo's case, it might have been a pedal design issue that contributed. But in general it was operator error.

My wife once put a winter floor-mat in, that partly rested on her gas pedal. I told her to cut it out or use something else, but she said it would be fine. (After being married a while, you learn to pick your battles). One day, a month or so later, I get a frantic/annoyed call on the phone, that her engine was racing even with her foot off the gas. (She'd just shut the car off and was on the side of the road). I told her to take the mat off of it, like I'd suggested the month before. She tried it, and when she got home, she let me cut it out around the shape of the gas pedal. She was a decent driver, but I can imagine some not too quick people doing the same thing and causing accidents.

Anyways, there was also a dateline special (?) about the same time (?) where they complained that you hit Ford Pickup from the side it would explode. (Assuming you had a model rocket igniter in the impact car like they did). There was the Pinto fiasco in the 70's -- but that one was a little more legit. There was the rollover with SUV's (some real, some exaggerated). I realize all those are not just brake/gas thing, but the same villanous liability stuff. I'm with Will Shakespear on the whole lawyer thing.

That's not a test car. Ford would not test with the plastic covers still on the seats. It looks to me like someone was a bit over zealous with the car in the wet and slid it into something (a pole?). Notice the wipers are stuck on and the rear tires look chewed up on the outer edge? You can only feather the outer edges like that on a solid axle by sliding it sideways. This car also doesn't have side airbags or else they would've deployed.

The good news is that the body structure did it's job and protected the occupants. Notice how the door overlaps the B-pillar and transfered the load into the pillar and cross car beam? B)

Good point pony_chief

That looks like a pretty solid hit, and it looks as if the driver came out unscathed. I am confident on the safety of this car.

The yellow paint could be a small pole or post they put in parking lots. Either way, it looks as if it was reckless behaiviour by a lot attendant. I hope no one was waiting for this car, because they will be furious.

I'd be telling the judge, pain and suffering!!!! The emotional damaged caused by seeing everyone else driving their new Mustangs while I waited for my new one from the factory......that's worth at least a Ford GT.
