Oil filters only filter down to 20 microns. Most engine wear is by particles less than 20 microns circulating throughout your engine in the oil. Also the internal combustion engine does contaminate the oil and the filter doesn't trap it out. Unburned fuel gets into the oil and the additives break down depending on how severe the driving is. If you are letting your oil go 9-10k miles I would highly recommend sending a sample awayto be analyzed for $20 just to see what is in there. Synthetic blends only contain around 10% synthetic oil in it to qualify for the Blend rating so if you really believe a blend is best for you then buy 3 qts. or so of pure synthetic oil and 3 qts. of regular oil and blend it yourself. All this info is publicly obtained from motoroil related websites. I change mine around 4-5k miles. It is cheap insurance to change it at 3k sure, but most oil is still very good at 3k miles.

if your running mobil one at 5k all critical measurements are still in great shape and I would be willing to bet that syn blend oils are still doing their intended job and would pass any test. I would be willing to bet that at 7500 miles its still doing a great job..... other wise the ford techs would say change it sooner.
Those guys did their home work here you should trust them.

I did my first oil change at 100 miles. Also had strong magnets on the filter to trap any shavings if there were any.
And I just realized I forgot to transfer the magnets to the new oil filter when I changed it a month or so ago. DOH!
