The president of Town & Country Ford told me today that they'll be getting the first 2005 Mustang in Alabama, and it will arrive in August. Of course it'll be a pre-production, not-for-sale model, but they'll be able to let people test drive it.
I've decided to rent a 2005 GT for a few days when Hertz gets their first shipment.

Renting one will be a great way to get an extended feel for the car, even if it's a stick or an automatic. If you like the 6, you'll love the V8, and you can always opt for the manny in your new car if you want it.
Renting for a few days beats any short test drive. Try to get one of their unlimited miles weekend package and take it for a long road trip. That's what I'll do.

saja this was back in like 1997 or 1998. there were 100 saleens to rent. they were verts w/ automatic trans. there was a write up a couple years ago in MT about them when they sold them to the public after they were finished with them

Renting is a good idea, but I never knew rental house to carry high horsepower cars. Every Hertz I've ever been to (and even the web site) just has the V6 Mustang.
Will Rental places be getting the "fleet" cars before dealers get their cars to sell?

Even if it's just a 6, it'll still get some cool looks in the first couple of weeks they're on the road. I'll do the same thing again when the ragtops come out.

here in L.A. they only have the v-6 auto w/hard or vert top. No gt's, no sticks! Is that real about saleens for rent???

The Budget rent-a-car in Marina Del Rey (suburb of L.A.) rents Mustang GTs. It rents mostly higher end cars; everything from Mustang GTs to Mercedes 500 SLs. That's a good idea to rent one for a day or two. I'll probably do that when the '05's come in, if I haven't already bought one.

Just curious.. what does it cost to rent those types of cars. I have always rented little crappy compact cars.

renting is a great idea.. I've done it a few times and was glad that I didn't buy some of the cars I rented. Every car feels pretty good around the block. Living with it at the grocery store, gas station, work etc.... is a completely different thing. Even if you only rent a v-6 auto it will give you a pretty good idea of what the car will be like as a daily driver
