With the 05's pretty much here, does anyone feel that the current mustang is better. Mostly from a style standpoint. As much as I love the new mustang, I kinda like the current mustang a little better. Maybe its because I wont be able to get an 05, but I think the new ones arent as agressive as the current ones. Anyways thats just my thoughts.

I agree. I think the new 'Stangs are more casual and appeal to more age groups than the S197's. Both look very good though And um, you stole my favorite 'Stang and middle name...

I was going to get an `04 but when I saw the `05`s, I decided to wait. I think over all it is a much better car than the `04 and the styling is freher.

I think it's very interesting that Ford decided to go with a style that in it's time didn't sell all that well.

Fortuneately for me it just happens to be the style that I think defines the Mustang, and judging by people's reactions to the new one, I'm not the only one that feels that way.

Maybe they were ahead of their time in the 60's?

I think there is a large group of people like me who are returning to the Mustang after many years.

If you were a fan of the 60's coupe style, you probably identify more with the last generation of Mustangs more than the coming generation.

All I know is, I'm glad I held off on buying what I "thought" was going to be my next fun car the 350Z.

 Wha? The first gen's (64-65) sold well for that era car or are you talking about the fastback style?

I love this one- the others I liked, but obviously it wasn't meant to be.

Glad I didn't go fool crazy- Just before last Christmas for about ten minutes I was begging hubby for a GTO(WHEW!)

The last models of mustang started out looking plain too. They will make the mustang more agressive in future model years. They have to differentiate their product year to year.

I really like the current gen styling a lot because it is what got me into mustangs in the firs place, it has really aggressive styling. I like the 05 a lot as well cuz it looks retro, but modern at the same time. I feel that Ford just picked up where they left off in 1969. Also, the new style is clean and streamlined (no fake scoops, etc.).

I think the new one looks more aggressive but to each his own. If you like the current gen, now is the best time to pick one up.

It was the style of the 2005 Mustang that caught my eye. The style brings back memories of another time..early Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, Dave Clark Five, Paul Revere and the Raiders.

Actually i've never like mustangs at all. At least the ones of late. I always thought the 60's stang was a real sweet looking car, but never really thought of buying one. I was fairly set on buying a WRX last christmas, but i happened to see a picture of the new mustang and i flat out fell in love with it. As soon as i found out that they were trying to make it affordable i pretty much decided to get it. Ford pretty much sold me with this new body style. The 300HP on the GT is a really good bonus too.

Here's quote from a USA Today article about the Mustang:

In the first year, Mustang sales reached an astounding 518,000. For the 1966 model year, sales arched even higher, to 540,000 units.
A half a million sales a year isn't "selling all that well"?

We are polar opposites! When the 94 came out, I thought I would never buy a new Mustang because IMO they just seemed so feminine.

It just didn't look aggresive to me, my brain did not say pony car or muscle car when I looked at one, but when I saw the 2005 concept I was blown away.

I can't wait to get my 2005 or 2006.

i agree with windhamjk. I had 3 pre 94 (88,91,92) mustangs and didnt care for the 94+ desgin at all. The 04 exterior looked the best of that generation but i always hated the interior.

I always wanted the early mustang look with all the improvements of a modern car... i guess 2005 up is the answer.

I heard a good saying somewhere that "a good vehicle design is obvious when it looks like nothing before it..."

Obviously the 2005 Mustang design isn't in-fact all that original (like say the Nissan Z or Chrysler Crossfire), so I guess I'll just leave it at that since I ordered one already

from a style standpoint.....the 05 destroys the current ones. performance once again the 05 destroys. the new mustang is much more agressive looking and its style is more tied to its heritage. notice all the hype and all the orders put out for this pony. soo overall i can say the new mustang is the winner

B) I first started thinking about getting back into a mustang when they came out with late model mach 1, but Ford was'nt giving any rebates or deals. Then when they did I was already so hooked on the 2005

I agree Dan...I think the look of the new Stang is more aggressive than the current one...especially the front on view...I just think it looks darn tough!! Shark nose, driving lights, slanted grille...it is going to look mean in people's rearviews!!! B)

I dont care much for the back-end of the current mustang...

Maybe because it looks too... bulky, in my opinion. I did, however like the model before last, where they had the rear break lights broken up in 3's, running left to right.... but it still looked bulky. (I think besides the lights, it was the same)

The 05' looks better on both ends, in my opinon. (I was born in the 80's, so I dont have a biased opinion. Didn't live in the 60's around the older mustangs )

Its just a matter of opinion.
