Feasibility of starting in 2nd gear?
#21
+1... I've been driving a 5-speed for most of my life. It's muscle memory- I don't even think about it. I shift up from 1st, and down from 5th. I only start out in 2nd if I'm "rolling". I downshift for passing and braking. I almost never look at the rpms. It's all "feel". It seems as though people develope a shifting technique when they're first taught and pretty much maintain that method throughout life

I agree, there is no magic rpm number that you should shift at. Shift when you think you should shift. When is that?? who cares, whenever you feel like it!!

TR-6060 (6-speed in GT500):
1: 2.97
2: 1.78
3: 1.30
4: 1.00
5: 0.80
6: 0.63
TR-3650 (5-speed in GT):
1: 3.38
2: 2.00
3: 1.32
4: 1.00
5: 0.62
AOD:
1: 2.40
2: 1.47
3: 1.00
4: 0.67
4R70W:
1: 2.84
2: 1.55
3: 1.00
4: 0.70
So starting in 2nd gear with the TR-6060 might actually be a bit worse than starting in 2nd gear with the TR-3650.

Needs to be more Astony
Your clutch is going to wear faster starting in 2nd.
I would not do it unless you need it for extra traction in snow.
Starting from a stop in 2nd all the time should not be done.
