just recived my new GT 2 weeks ago. has been in the dealer bodyshop for 1 of these weeks(paint color black),the paint had lots of overspray that u could see and feel with ur hand and cirtain areas of the car had major orange peel. the orange peel was weird, the driver side door was fine, but the driver side rear 1/4 panel was awful.the orange peel was checkerboarding the car bad-to-good-to-bad. i got the car back today the orange peel is still there overspray is gone but now the hood and other areas have plenty of new circular scratches

who else is having paint problems and how are they being resolved??

I have a black GT on order - this isn't what I wanted to read. I was hoping some of the paint problems reported here were cleared up by now, apparently they haven't been. Is it to much to ask for at least a consistent decent paint job from the factory? Then the dealer doesn't even fix your orange peel? With your comment about the circular scratches it sounds like they just tried to buff out the problem areas… Get pictures.

I've had a black GT now since mid February and the paint is very nice. I traded in a black '02 BMW and the Mustang's paint is just as nice as the BMW was.

I don't understand the why the '05 Mustang's paint would seem to be so inconsistant. I've seen new cars sitting on dealer's lots (no '05 Mustang though) that have been "touched up". Maybe a problem in transport that the dealer tried to fix, who knows?

We have a red GT. When we got her home we had a friend over. He is a body and fender man. He picked up runs in the clear coat and a factory ding in the driver side rear fender. We took the car back and showed them the error in the paint they had her three long days which drove my husband and I nuts. We were concerned they would make it worse, but they flew some one from Ford to fix the ding and the paint they did. Looks great. I hope they can fix your.

My car also had overspray on it but I took care of it myself.

Jon,

Sorry to hear about your paint problems. The roughness that you felt on the paint may not have been overspray, it may have been rail dust. A few hours with a clay bar gets rid of that for you. Probably what they did.

Unfortunately, some orange peel is a fact of life with a factory paint job from Ford. Look close enough at any of the 05s and you will probably see it. The problem comes when there is just too much and that can be a subjective fight with the dealer. New circular scratches and they had it one week out of 2? Back she goes! Good luck, hope you reach a point where you are satisfied with the outcome.

I have a meeting with the body shop manager tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes. PS why am I a V6 member? Is it because I only have one post?
