Well I took a friend for a ride today to check out my new mustang. While on the ride we were looking at how dirty it had gotten. Well what he saw was not dirt. It was an 18-20 inch paint run. not just a little one. It is on the rear drive quater. it is so bad I can't believe I missed it. :bang: I can feel the bump and it collects dirt on it like it was a ledge. What would you do? The car is 1 week old and has a factory paint defect. I want to tell the dealer to take it back and give me a new one. That however may be a bit much. I have to atleast take it back and complain. I really don't want them to shoot it as then the chances of it matching are slim. What to do?? Please advise. I will provide pictures in the morning and my camera is dead right now.

Take it back and let them fix it. They can match the paint so you won't even notice.

if it is just the clearcoat, they can probably wet sand it and buff it out.

its a very minor problem IMO... the dealer shouldn't hesitate to fix it.

That is a pretty serious run! I'd have at least 2 or three body shops give an expert opinion before letting the dealer's body shop repair the car. I'm disappointed that Ford would release a car with that much of a paint defect.

You probably didn't notice it upon delivery because your eyes were glassed over by the intoxicating site of the car.

Well no pictures yet. When I pulled the car into the garage at work this morning I was even more shocked to see what was dealing with. I used a 500 watt halogen lamp to reveal what is not just an 18-20 inch sag in the paint. The sag goes from the front of the wheel well starting about 4 inches up from the rocker panel all the way up and over to the seam that is behind the wheel well. I decided at that point that I was just going to take it back to the dealer and see what they said. The salesman asked had me talk to the sales manager that orders the cars and he sent me over to their in house body shop. The body manager told me 2 days if it is in the clear coat and 4 days if he has to shoot paint. Thay are going to block the clear, polish it and hope for the best. If it is not in the clear they will shoot some color and the clear the entire quater panel. All of it under warranty, with a rental car. We will see what happens. I will see what I can do but I think it is going to be real hard to get pictures worth looking at.
