Just curious, what type of mods will void your extended/standard warranty?

From what I understand, most bolt-ons are okay, just mods to the engine itself are :nono:

Anyone care to elaborate?

It will probably be the same for the SN-95's, but I dunno.

From what I have heard is that it varies by dealership ... I never had any warranty issues with my mods

This is a tough one, hopefully Ford will make the Mustang Warranty very clear.

I have been reading about claims being denied on EVO's and WRX's because the cars were being flogged on autocrosses and racetracks.

In my mind, if the aftermarket part installed fails, or causes a failure, they can deny coverage, but in some cases I have heard otherwise, where the entire warranty will be voided. The best thing to do perhaps is to get a signed letter from the dealer stating what constitutes a voided warranty and what does not. I don't konw if the dealer will be willing to do this.

Other than minor bolt-ons, I think I will keep the car relatively stock

SVT Enthusiast magazine had a pretty decent article a few months ago on just this subject. What was covered, what was not ..SVT specific mind you.

SVT actually promotes racing with their on-track program.

I will have to go and dig that article out ..

The same for me, at least for the first year.....then I will have to take a look at all those supercharger packages!!! Since this car will not be my daily driver I want to make it scream! I guess I will not be getting the 7yr warranty package

How much is the 7 yr extended warranty? Would you recommend it if I do not plan to mod it past replacing the mufflers?

Good question. Anyone have a ballpark figure on how much a 7 year extended warranty on the '05 is going to be? Maybe someone with a 2004 Mustang who got the extended warranty. And is it worth the extra money?

I will probably keep mine stock. It is my understanding that a dealer cannot legally void a warranty because of modifications. This does not mean that they don't void them it just means that it is illegal. What they can legally do is deny a warranty claim if a failure can be directly related to a mod that has been done. For instance, if you take your car to the dealer because the A/C is not working they cannot deny that claim because you have a cold air intake. If your wipers stop working and your stereo is messed-up the dealer can't say "your warranty is void because of that supercharger you installed". On the other hand if you take the car in because the rear end is blown you should expect to have that claim denied as a result of said supercharger. :nono:

It's hard to say for sure

Bought a focus for my kid sister a month ago and the 7 yr. plan (ford's "esp?") was only 560 (if we signed up for it that day). Then last week, my old man bought a new F150 and the same warantee was well over $1300! I recall my 99 stang having the same plan available up until the moment the original 3yr/36K expired for about $850. My guess is that the 05 Stang should run about a grand even for an extended service plan...

I ordered my 05 GT through military car sales and I included the 7 yr/ 75,000 mile waranty. For coverage in the US and Canada it was priced at $1600. I assume that price would be the same when purchased stateside since it is administered by Ford Motor Company.

True, but it doesn't take many repairs to get to $1600. I'm confident in the new stang, but it is the first Model Year for a completely new car.......what's a bit more up front if you can swing it. Maybe more piece of mind than anything. I'm seriously considering it. Nothing like handing them the keys for 7 years and saying "just fix it."

I called my insurance company (Geico) to check the rates for the 05 coverage. They said they have a new service that is basically a 7 yr 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. She said it starts at about $33 per 6 months. It will increase slightly as time goes on. She did not tell me how much it increases. But if it is $33 per 6 months for 7 years, that is $33 x 7years x 2 payments a year = $462 at a minimum.

Dan,
I guess you know me well enough now to know that I would rather spend an afternoon in my garage fixing my car then having to drop it off and waiting until they finish.

If serious problems start showing up within the first 3 years, you know you have a money pit on your hands, that is the only way I would trade my car in early.

I knew that. I'm seriously thinking of the Extended Warranty though. I have no idea if major problems will arise with this car. Plus, fixing is good if you have the time.....some weeks I might, some I might not. I not a psychic and don't know what's going to happen with job etc. in the future. For under $2000 Cdn, it might be worth it for me. That's only two major repairs.

Not to mention my father is dead set on getting it. His ram's tranny went within 2 years (but he was over the km limit of the stock warranty). Cost him $3000 Cdn. Sorta like, fool me once, shame on me........

My sister's corolla has a 6 year warranty.....we don't even worry about car repairs/problems with that car.

I also have a friend who works for a dealer, so he'll look after my car while its in there. He currently drives my Probe into the bay....gets a good mechanic and lets them know that this is a "friends" car.
