What is Corrosion Perforation? It is listed as under warranty for 60 months for the mustang.

That's the polite technobabble for "rust-through"

Ford warrantes that the body will not rust all the way through the metal for five years.

I am not sure if that is just the way you worded it, but it makes it sound like it does not cover surface rust. Seems that it is only covered if the rust goes all the way thru the metal and makes a hole.

Am I reading that wrong?

You are correct, it only covers rust through. Surface rust is not covered. Every factory warranty states it this way, otherwise they would have huge numbers of claims for rust.

That is a little extreme. So if you start to get surface rust, should you rub a little extra salt on the area and get it going good, so you can claim it.

An extended warranty can be worth it if it's $1000 or under in my opinion. Especially on then first year of a totally redesigned Ford product. If it were a Honda, Toyota or Nissan I would say you would probably be ok without it. I love the new Mustang, but I have owned a few Ford cars/trucks and know that things are going to break more often than in a japanese car. Ford had to replace the engine in my Explorer at 39K!

When I bought my Mach last year the dealer offered a third party extended warranty. :nono: I asked about the Ford Premium Care warranty and he looked at me like I was crazy, you see, the dealer makes more money off of the third party warranty. He actually said that he didn't think they offered it, I called him on his lie and he changed his story.

In Florida extended warranties are considered insurance and are regulated as such, this means there is no negotiating over the price of said warranty.

DO NOT get a third party warranty, you will get ripped off!

If you live in Florida, buy your warranty from an out of state dealer or you will be ripped off.

I bought a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty through http://fordwarrantys.com/ for
$895.00 My original dealer wanted $2,500.00 for the same warranty. There are three levels of Ford ESP warranties, I went with the best coverage they have, the Premium Care. Premium Care covers everything except, consumables such as Brake pads, clutch discs, tires, upholstery and trim.

To those of you that don't buy extended warranties, good luck, performance cars break, imagine having to replace a head or a block on a 32 valve 4.6, not cheap!

I researched http://fordwarrantys.com/ , and they are legit, they saved me $1,600.00. Use a credit card to buy from whoever you go through, about a week after confirmation of your order, call your dealer service department and have them look up your warranty. This insures you are getting what you paid for. If you have problems you can dispute the charge with your creditor.

I hope this helps

Drive it like you stole it!

If you have an extended warranty and you trade-in your car, they'll pro-rate your warranty towards another extended warranty or towards your new purchase. I had that done on a couple of occasions. I rarely kept a car for more than 4 years lately, so I usually don't purchase an extended warranty. For some reason, I did when I got my '02 GT Vert. Looks like I'll be keeping this one for over 4 years (or very close to it). $50 deductable and whatever is broke on the Vert, they'll fix(except for wear/tear parts). Looking forward to seeing the SE Stangs in the next year or two. Hopefully they'll have different colors/models to choose from in '06-'07.

My first car (a 76 Mustang - bought in '90) came with two rust holes already in it. My sister's boyfriend and me fixed the two holes up and got it ready for painting. Before I could get it painted, a buddy of mine backed into the excat spot we just repaired. His spare tire holder (jeep) punctured the repair. Had to start all over again.

Looks like the '05 Mustang has been added to the ford extended warranty site...prices too!

Clutch insurance ( Quality Care ) ...interesting...

I thought you used to be able to get coverage up to 120k....now only to 100k?
