emblem question

would it be weird to debadge a gt of the back and front emblems and replace them with the shelby gt500 ones? it just something about that cobra I like, but forking over 60g's for it is outrageous.

IMO, do whatever you think looks good, but im sure there will be people that think your trying to pass your GT off as a shelby. I started to do something similar by adding the top and bottom side scoops, like the 67, 68 shelbys, but my dad (whos owns a 1969 GT:500) told me I was stepping on too many toes in doing so, I just thought it looked good.

If you like the Cobra, FRPP sells a version of the back emblem / fake gas cap with just the Cobra on it and not the words Shelby GT500. The part number is M-2301-S.

I guess I'm passing my GT off as a V6 since I repaced the fender emblems and the gas cap with the ones from the v6

I have had alot of different badges on the side of my car including the cobra but I just never really felt right about that emblem being on my car. I say do what you like also but the cobra badge usually stirs up the most conservation.

.... I say do what you like also....

Seems to be concensus. It's your car. Do what you want to it.

Amen Bro!

If you do decide to go with the snake emblems, be prepared for all sorts of comments. Some examples:

1) "Nice Cobra!" Usually from someone who doesn't know your car inside and out.
2) "You KNOW that's not a Cobra, don't you?" Obviously from some who knows these cars intimately.
3) "Can I look at your motor? I've never seen a supercharged GT500!" Whatcha gonna say/do here?
4) "How much over retail did you pay?"

Be prepared for similar comments/questions!

Thats exactly what he would be doing. An emblem does not improve the exterior looks or hp. I would rather see no emblem's than a wannabe.

I'm sure there will be people that think you're trying to pass your GT off as a Shelby.

There will always be people like this. It's HOW you answer the questions like I stated above that really determines what your intent is. In my case, I know I've fooled a lot of people with my "Shelby appearing" GT, but whenever I get approached, I always say something like, "It's really not a Shelby." I definitely say this sarcastically though, which tends to open up the topic further. I then add, "It's really a GT with Shelby body parts and it makes enough horsepower to equal a mildly modded GT500. That seems to quiet any further murmuring....

It is his car. If he likes the cobra emblems I think he should put them on. He isn't trying to pass his car off as something that it is not. I built a Saleen Clone and I get bagged on all the time. People say I am trying pass my car off as the real thing but I am not. I just like the look and the performance parts!

I have the cobra emblems on my rims cuz they came w/them. I don't get harassed about it though. If someone says is that a cobra?(someone who is not stang saavy),I simply say no,It's a GT

It looks like Ill be doing the same. I think the tri-bar pony emblem looks a lot better than the GT emblem.

Go for it!

Do whatever you like with the badges, it is YOUR car!
I did something similar when I replaced my Mini Cooper's Badges and gas cap with those from the Mini Cooper S... I didn't want to pass it off as something it wasn't, I just liked the look so much better...

I am thinking about changing the emblem in the rear of the car and the front horse with the cobra. i also want to possibly change the GT on the fenders with cobra ones. does any online stores sell cobras for the front grill? every one i have seen online are for the 'stangs before 05.

That's exactly why I changed mine - I didn't like the GT emblems

I took mine off and added the Scott Drake Powered By Ford emblems. I guess someone could say that now I'm trying to pass my car off as a Shelby GT because that's what they have but not quite the same.
