Drove the pony on the highest road in the US
#1
Hi all, I though I'd share some pics of my new pony in the mountains. My brother, a friend and I drove out to Denver from Indianapolis for the Great American Beer Festival this past weekend. The three of us did the 14 hour straight drive Wednesday night and then back on Sunday afternoon. On Friday, I took her up to Mount Evans outside of Denver which is apparently the highest road in the country (at least paved). On the way back down, I drove my auto like a stick and didn't us the gas or the break for 14 miles! I reset my mpg on the way down and maxed out the computer at 99.9 mpg for 14 miles!

I'm assuming the road you were on was Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. Did you go through Estes Park? Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous highway in the US. It's absolutely gorgeous up there. Would love to take my Stang there when I recieve it.

I'm not sure if it was Trail Ridge Road or not. We took 70 till Idaho Springs and then 103 until we got to the entrance of the park. We didn't go to Estes park, is that all paved? I read about some really scenic drives, but a lot of them were half gravel which I'm not too keen about.

I did that this past August in my daughter's '04 V6 Mustang. Had to deliver her car to her college in Tempe, Az. Took me 14 hours from St. Louis to Golden, Co. (beats going through Oklahoma. They always give me tickets there.) I wonder what mileage you got just on the trip UP the mountain? I bet it made up for the great mileage you got on the way down!

The drive went very smoothly. I had about 3000 miles on it before I left and I switched to synthetic the night before. We ran pretty hard out there and back. I noticed some hood shakes on I-70 through Kansas on the way back. It was very windy and when passing a few trucks at 90+ the hood started to shake. All in all the pony had no problem running for 14+ hours straight at high speeds.

I'm movin' to Clearwater.... I'm tired of the mountains. I guess maybe I'll appreciate it more once I'm 2000 miles away.

I would never get tired of those mountains. I've taken that road 3 times in the past, awsome ride. I did it twice in a 1983 ford econoline 150 van, from Philly to yellowstone what a trip, 6000 mile round trip.
Love to do in the new stang but wouldn't really wnat to put that many miles on it.
