People are talking about drifting and the 05 Mustang. What the heck is meant by drifting? They were talking about car shows and racing.

It is a type of racing popular in Japan. I saw it on the show RIDES a while ago.

Drifting is what happens when the lady in the Cadillac SUV starts putting on her makeup during rush hour on the freeway. Very common form of driving.

Drifting is that style of racing, originating in Japan I think, where cars race around the track sliding sidways right at the verge of spinning out of control. There are different forms of it I guess. Winners are judged on style rather than speed and time.

It's actually quite :gay:

RWD is all you need to drift. That and the high hp/tq from the stock Mustang is very attractive. Actually the solid rear axle would probably help as well. The high weight is a bad thing though. I think drifiting is pretty cool, and very hard to do. Not that I want to see any Mustangs on the D1 or FormulaD circuits or anything, but you really must admire the skill and car control.

There are some videos here: http://www.lateralgracing.com/

I would be inclined to think that being close to 4K pounds the Mustang and drifting might not be a good recipe.

drift racing is in no way gay.

It has to be one of, if not THE hardest form of racing. The push their cars to the total edge of control yet are in control the entire time. That RIDES show that was refered to earlier featured a GTO that was setup for drifting by Stillen. They did a quality job, but there were just too many issues to overcome the first year of it's entry.

I have alot of respect for the fact that they can drive such a technical race style and still make it look entertaining. No flames here, but how exciting is the avg. 1/4 mile race??

Looks fun. I doubt anyone would hate it if they were able to do it, or did it. Watching may be a different story. I'm not much of a race watcher. Doing it is the fun part.

I think this must of become popular in Japan because land is so scarce. It takes up much less room for this kind of track as compaired to Daytona or Indy. Just a thought.

Yes, I definitely wouldn't call drifting gay. I actually think its pretty darn cool. I saw 1000 HP Vipers and Supras drifting a few weeks ago... it was sweet.

Don't applogize. It's the kind of thing that's enjoyable to watch for about 1/2 a second. And it's your opinion.

Bullittman thats the best news I have heard today! I'm actually going in either tomorrow or early next week to finalize the paper work. They have been real good to me and I can't wait. How do you feel about the car since you now have had it awhile? Are you going to be driving it this winter?

I'm sure it takes some skill to be good at drifting, but I would rather paint my house, and I hate painting, than watch any drifting!
