Don's '08 Shelby GT500- 1000 HP block!

Don has been a customer of ours ever since the first modification went on his Shelby shortly after he took delivery. Don, like most of us gearheads wasn't ever satisfied with his power level and kept adding mod after mod. Don was finally happy with the addition of a Kenne Bell Stage III 2.8 Mammoth making 768 RWHP.

Don drove the car quite a bit on the street and wasted anything that came his way. The stock shortblock finally gave way releasing a rod and blowing a hole in both sides of the block.

Don had the car towed to us and said that he didn't want that to happen again. We ordered a new block, crank, Oliver Rods, JE Pistons, Hellfire rings and other bits to reassemble the engine. This block should be safe to run 1000 HP with.

Check out the pics of the carnage and build!

It is obvious the stock iron block has its limits. I was curious at to who manufactures the new block and its characteristics. I am also curious as to the circumstances which preceeded the engine's damage.

Most of the time its the internals and not the block. Even the alu 3v stock block can handle some massive power with no issues providing the rotating assembly can handle it.

Its kinda like the old debate iron vs alu. I see nothing wrong with an alu block hell I would prefer it. I would rather run less power and reduce weight than add weight and increase power. Although at 1000hp the weight difference is negligible at best.

You are exactly right. The block was not the failure in this engine; rather it was the rod that let loose. If the rod hadn't damaged the factory block we would be using it again.

You are also right about the 3V aluminum block. We put down 1000+ RWHP on the factory block before.

The block is from Ford Racing and it's the same as a production block. The thing that caused the factory motor to let go was over-rev.
