Exclamation A thread that's sure to get locked.

In a recent thread, someone made the following comment after seeing another person's (not mine) exterior mods:

That's enough show....how about a couple of go mods now. I know this site is mostly about show mods. Very few posters have heavy power mods like forced induction running high boost for track use etc etc, so you'll get lots of support on all your show mods, but the aggressive look needs to be balanced with some added power.

Now, the subject of the thread was a member's car who has Eleanoresque exterior mods, including side exhaust. There were no cobras, no 'R' stickers, no false advertising of any kind. Performance mods listed in sig were a X-pipe and upgraded rotors.

What does everyone else think about this requirement of performance and looks being balanced? Is it OK to be satisfied w/ having a great looking car and only slightly over 300 HP?

Is it OK to greatly improve the GT's looks while only mildly upgrading the performance? What's everyone think?

If performance upgrades are a requirement when upgrading looks to maintain 'balance', then what about sleepers? If someone goes FI w/ a blower, then do they need to put on a body kit to balance out the power under the hood?

My opinion - no false advertising, no foul. On the other side of the coin, sleepers are cool.

Sometimes I wish I had done less to my exterior and more for the performance but it's always nice getting a when driving down the street. Probably wouldn't happen if I had no exterior mods.

The bottom line for me is it's your car and do what you like. Not everyone will like what you do but should that really matter? I hate treads where people ask what do you think about this or that because everyone has a different opinion of what they like and don't.

I think that my GT/CS is a sort of modified exterior and I really don't need more than 300hp. I live on a street that is a 25mph, then the next is 40mph then it goes to 25mph again lol. I think that it is the persons choice. I love sleepers too.

It's all about what you want. Who cares what someone else thinks. Even the guys that brag about how much power they have and how fast their cars are, will always run into someone faster than they are. Somedays you wish you were there to see it. Speed/power is proven in numbers; looks are subjective. People buy cars and/or mods for their cars based upon what they like. It shouldn't be about looks or power; it really is about the fun of modding.

Personally I find it in bad taste for someone to even say that. Enough of the show mods... how about a couple of go mods now. Really? I find this forum to be one of the best because of the lack of criticism on it. People not jumping down each other's throats for things. Had the person said... wellt he show is nice, plan on doing anything for the go or no? That to me would've been nicer. The way I see it is, it's your car do what you want to it since it's your dime you're sending. Screw everyone else.

There are a lot of show mods I don't care for, but at the end of the day everyone is entitled to do as they please. I've seen some local Mustangs that wrinkle my nose, but a lot of people don't care for things i've done, like my stripes. Its a love/hate thing, but that doesn't matter. If someone wants to go all show and no go, that's perfectly fine. There's no "balance" to it, because the only balance that exists is what you personally care about.

That's just a silly statement. Its a Mustang, its got "go" from the factory!

person should be allowed to do what they want.... adopt roush's philosophy of 'never met a Mustang I didn't like.'

thats a stupid comment, and I hope its been removed from that thread cause that car is a really nice looking one. Personally, im a broke *** college student who drives a 6 and I find it a lot easier to do "show" mods because on the whole theyre cheaper. My car is a boss tribute and while Id love for it to have 300+ HP, its a lot cheaper to add hockey stick sidestripes than say a new engine or FI

Who cares? As long as a car is modified tastefully, I like it.

I have enough to worry about with my Mustang to worry about if others have the "right" balance of show and go. I didn't see the thread or the post, but it only bothers me when people purposely misrepresent the power their car has, and even then it doesn't bother me too much

Just have fun and don't hate. If someone mucks up their mustang real bad....they have to drive it.

300HP is more than enough to upset the local cops.
My car has nothing on it to imply speed (I ordered it without a spoiler even).
I get thumbs up just because it is super clean.
And when no one is looking, I know I can go really fast.

Mine is under warranty. You do what you can when you can. I'm sure everyone wants MORE power, but at what expense. I'm not willing to void anything just yet, so I only did the cosmetic stuff for now.

I'm pretty sure most people can't drive past 300 Hp. The car doesn't like to put down more than 365 Hp without a bunch of additional stuff. Sure there are a select few that have good combos and can actually use the car, but the average person is going to have their hands full with 450 RWHP.

Muskrat wasn't a 500HP fire breathin' GM/Dodge eater, she was a docile little I6 that did the quarter in 19s. But she *beat* those other 500HP behemoths in the shows.

Now, if she'd also have had a nice 302 in her? Well, bonus. But it wasn't what I wanted, and she didn't need it. There's no such thing as balancing out a look with more horsepower. If that were the case, rust buckets that had 500 HP would shine like gems. But they don't.

A look is a look. Performance is performance. Sometimes, you go for both, but most times, you want one or the other, and that's fine.

/I've had enough ubertweaked stuff to last me. I'll takes me some looks mods any day.

I agree completely. It's just not needed for comments like that. I'm not saying don't speak your mind, don't debate things because after all that's what these forums are all about. In the end comments like that aren't constructive and are counter productive to helping people. We are all into Mustangs and that should be enough to get rid of BS comments like that.

I race motocross so of course I'm on some motocross forums as well. The problem is that there are a lot of young kids on them and even adults with the maturity level of a 13 year old. Comments like that and much much worse, stuff like "that's gay" etc, are a dime a dozen. I'm sure the forums would have double the number of active members if posts like that weren't tolerated.

Thumbs up

The point is that everyone can mod their car how and when they choose. Some cars look good, some look bad, and beauty is always in the eye of the beholder (but sometimes the beholder is blind .)

I don't think that a hood scoop means that you must have a blower underneath although I think we almost all would like to be supercharged one day. I do think that if your hood scoop says 'Supercharged' on it then you need FI under the hood, otherwise it just wouldn't make sense to me.

The comment quoted in post #1 just struck me as rather eliteist, and I didn't see the need to **** in someone's Wheaties when they're showing off the hard work they put into their car.

(and in case anyone thinks that I'm just over sensitive, it wasn't even about my car, it was another forum member's)

I'm just happy everyone can modify their car as they see fit. There are examples of awful cars out there, but they're few and far between.

Me, I want to speak softly and carry a very big stick.

I think people should live by a classic rule: "If you don't have anything nice (positively constructive) to day, then say nothing at all"

I was eying a white 07 GT with cloth, a 5speed, spoiler delete and **** near no options. That car would have been a really cool sleeper if I went all out. I know that I cannot afford to go "all out" like some of the other awesome cars I have seen here and else where. I do know that I can afford to make my CS stand out a bit with a few touches here and there and that is the whole point. People do what they want to do with what they have and it shouldn't be any other way.

Well being civil/respectful is important to keep a dialogue going. But if everyone kept their opinion to themselves, or all think the same, we wouldn't have much of a forum would we...

I mean forums are about sharing your thoughts & opinions aren't they?

Metal sharpens metal. People can disagree without being disagreeable.
