Man charged with stealing rental car

Platte County prosecutors on Wednesday charged a 17-year-old man with stealing a rental car and refusing to stop for authorities.
Mondrell Lamont Smallwood08/25/1988 of Kansas City is accused of stealing a 2006 Ford Mustang from the parking lot of the Hertz car rental location, 902 N. Tel Aviv Ave.
Smallwood was arrested shortly after crashing the vehicle near Northwest Klamm and Prairie View roads.

I travel a lot and most companies leave the keys in them during business hours, especially for regular customers. National has the Emerald Isle, you just walk out to the row of cars on the lot, pick the one you want and drive to the checkout booth. I bet the kid just grabbed one that had the keys in it.
I wish National had more Mustangs. The only Ford I've rented recently was the Ford 500, I usually have to drive a Chevy or Pontiac.
