Ok, when they say the Shaker 1000 is 1000 watts and the Shaker 500 is 500 watts, does that mean that one subwoofer supplies an extra 500 watts?
No. There are 2 extra subs on the Shaker 1000 and additional amps are added to get you the 500 watts extra.

Personally I don't like the compartment of the center console. No dividers for cd cases, etc.... The coin holder is nice but the power plug at the bottom is not in a good position. A person would need to remove all of thier junk in order to use it. The other power point in the center of the dash.....who thought of that? Terrible placement. Plug in your cell phone and place it in the cup holder. Now you have a cord streched down over top of the shifter. Not a good design as far as power points go.

In any event, it is substantively useless to think of the 1000 as making "twice" the power of the 500. It real world playback conditions, you will merely notice tighter, deeper bass response, lower distortion on bass heavy tracks, and better extension into the lower frequencies of the audio spectrum (the 8''s in the doors will be lucky to grab 38 Hz). With trunk mounted 10s you could get down to the low 30's, and possibly break into the high 20s though I wouldn't hold my breath)
The frequency that the speakers give off has nothing to do with power. Speakers are designed to handle a specific range and then crossovers are used to control the range that the speaker is producing. We do not know what frequency the doors and rear subs will go down to unless we know the crossover point that the manufacturer has set them to via the headunit and/or the amplifiers. I definately believe the rear subs will go down to the low 20's, after all, that is the purpose of the automotive subwoofer.

Big thing to remember is there is no subwoofer gain control on the factory deck. If you think you are going to crank the system and turn up the bass think again. Sure, the rear subs will be thumping but your door speakers will be distorting and a year from now you will be wondering why your speakers sound like crap.

In any event, I will be replacing the head unit with one that has crossover control. I will also be putting in my own amp and a 12" sub in the back which I will custom design to take up less space than the Shaker 1000 upgrade. Sub will be crossed over from 20hz to 80hz. 8" doors from 60hz to 250 hz and the rest from 200 up.
