Notchy here too. Nothin' worse than trying to show off and then getting caught in that notch when your foots on it's way off the clutch.
Oh well, can't find 'em grind 'em.

Smooth as silk here in all gears. My '97 was notchy, especially 2nd - 3rd when pushing hard. And reverse was a hit or miss proposition. I can't imagine a new shifter being worth the time it would take to change over, the stock shifter rocks on mine.

Where's all my auto guys for support!?!?
Stock, I know the manual would win, barely. That's due to lower gearing and less power loss through the drivetrain. Once power is added (I hope to have 450 to the wheels when all is said and done) I believe the auto will shine. No way you guys won't be losing momentum during shifting with that much torque. Since this auto shifts amazing quick (instantly!) and with that much power making the gearing just fine I will hold my own against any auto!

No disrespect to manual guys, just my opinion.
There's no disrespect, I think I speak for all stick drivers when I say we get them manual for the driving experience and connection, not really for knowing its a few tenths faster than the auto.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. I was just pointing something out.

Yea, that's definitely embarassing. I've been lucky enough to only do that when I'm trying to NOT show off. When I'm showboating and powershifting I never have any problems.

Mine seems to shift pretty smoothly; no complaints in that regard. However, it is a bit noisy.

Mine is notchy from 1st to 2nd in low rpms.

I have sat in Richard's and shifted with the traix. It is alot more exact and harder to shift. Still on the fence to do it or not.

Comparing stock stangs both are quick to 60mph,about 5.1sec each its after that the stick starts to ease ahead. Driving both I'd say they are pretty equal to 80mph when the AT seems to lose power in 4th and 5th gear, the MT keeps on pulling strong. In stock form the AT has a 13.6 trap time and 99.9mph trap speed. The manual on the other hand turns 13.5 with a trap speed of 103.6mph. Personally I drive in a crappy area( HEAVY congestion) called Atlanta so its a no brainer. I'm going with the AT.

My AT doesn't go to 4th till 90MPH, but I agree 4th gear has a drop in power.

(originally the post said 4th **** power, and the editing software on the site changed the word "****" to "s t i n k s" that's funny

**EDIT: There are language filters in place, and that word is not allowed. Please do not by pass the language filters in the future.**

Yeah Mark, you're right it is more like at 90 that the power falls off in the AT. Thats why the trap speed of the MT is about 4mph more. Gotta tell ya that at that speed I'm looking at the road ahead and not down at my speedometer.

I had also read the AT starts to drop off at 4th 5th gears... but truth be known I bought a manual so I could be totally in touch with the car and the driving experience..
(and secret motive was keep my wife out of the driver seat of my toy ... yes its an evil plot - but its worked so far...)

Mines going in for the 5th gear syncro is screwed up and it's notchy in 1,2 and 3 unless its higher revs put it in 5th and it takes 3 or 4 times to get it out.. :bang: Phoned the dealer the day I drove it home he said to let it break in.. then when I did bring it in the service manager phoned to ask me how I drove my car it had 225 km on it.. I very nicely told him how I drive it and that it was that way when I left the lot..he then tells me there might be more wrong but they won't know untill they open it up.. while they have it out I'm going to add steeda's bushings..Anyone use these yet?

My sentiments exactly. And the plot is working here too.

Mine seems to be softening up a bit in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, but it might just be me coming down to it's level. 7000 miles so far.

Definitely notchy from 1st to 2nd. Darn thing is a pain to shift from 1st to 2nd when drag racing. I've ground gears going into second more than once before getting used to this tranny's awkward quirkiness... I really need to get a shifter that bolts directly to the tranny.

Well like I said I'd monitor for a while, and yes the shifting 3-2 and 2-1 at low speeds is not as smooth as I would like it.

I took out my 69 yesterday for a play and Even though I have to row that stinker about a foot between gear changes with the good old Hurst Competition Plus, and its a 3000lb zbar linkage clutch I can say that with my 36 year old transmission, I can whip it through the gears a little quicker and smoother powershifting then I can with the 05.

I will note though that with the traction control off, poweshifting 1-2 in the 05 generates lots of axle hop. Having said all that, Man is this car fun to drive, seems like every time I drive it I get more impressed with its performance.

As far as an auto beating me, don't think so. I may be old, but its been a few years since I missed a gear in a race, so I don't think your odds of pulling it off look too good. Sure it is easier to drive an automatic, but in a car that runs 13's where is the thrill? Also, you have to do a little more that take you foot off the brake an press the gas to run under 14 seconds in an auto.
