. . . . from Mach1registry, back in November or so? He came on, gave quite detailed specs on the 05 Stang (300 hp 3v, 2 piece drive shaft, 5 speed tr3650, computer with no chip port, etc..), and everyone shrugged him off as just another troll because he had some bad things to say about the mustang team?

Since he was right on pretty much everything he said, I think he wasn't a troll. Just a dude who did 'something' on the mustang team and was bitter about something.

I think I remember also, and he had many complaints. If I remember correctly, one of them was that the Mustang wouldn't respond well to mods anymore
Link anyone?

Yea, he was indeed a troll as most of us expected. He said the GT coupe weighed around 3800lbs!!!

fwiw, the 3v 4.6 sounds like it pretty much been maxed out by the engineers...i mentioned this in another thread...sounds like ford is taking after gm and extracting every last hp/torque out of the 4.6. don't think changing out the intake or exhaust system will have much effect like in past ford motors. also, playing around with the mapping won't make much of a change, except for the worse. let's face it, 300 hp out of a mass produced motor is just about the limit i would say. any big increases in power will have to come from internal mods like cams and cylinder work. i think that's a good thing, too...why not maximize the engine from the git go and not have to spend all kinds of money to bring it up to the competition. jackg 90seville 94k

Don't be so sure.
I remember hearing 'tests' of the engine.."hitting 300hp with ease"
"can go up and beyond if it needs to"

Don't forget this is a mainstream 3v, running on regular gas, with some tricks up its sleeve + has to pass emissions as its going in a 'run of the mill' (use that term lightly) Mustang GT.

Its also a new engine.
Look how long it took them to extract 320+hp out of the 4v....

Tunning, and other components can go a LONG way.
This engine is pretty much a great look at where the 4.6 has been, is right now, and can go in the future.

Here's a couple of bits that I had picked up...
(I think I posted this before?)

Back in the Spring, while on a vacation, I meet some Ford transmission engineers. One of the guys was on the team that worked on the 5 spd auto development for the 05 Mustang.

All 3 of these guys said that the new OBD programing for the 05 Mustang would be a much bigger challenge for the aftermarket tuners. Any parts/programming changes that effected a sensor reading would force the OBD into the default or "limp home " safe mode. Also, that the OBD coding was much more complicated and Ford was not going to share it with much of the aftermarket world.
Maybe the "troll" was right about that.

On a positive note, they talked about currently working on a 6 spd auto that was being tested in a Mazda "mule" vehicle, but should be ready for production in a year or two.

I'm sure that Ford will share the 'unlock codes' with certain tuners for a price.

Don't worry, Ford knows that people modify stangs.
Make it difficult ...maybe in the beggining.
Make it impossible...not a chance

ANY computer can be reprogrammed. Auto makers are not hack proof. The afternarket companies will definitly be retuning the New stang computer. I have Zero doubts

People were crying about the death of bolt-ons when OBDII hit the market in 1996. I think it is great because I only need to buy one code scanner for my fleet.

I don't plan on going too crazy with bolt-ons anyways, so I will be okay.

Guys: FORD WILL NOT PREVENT AFTERMARKET MODIFICATIONS!!!! The fact that the stang is one of the most customizable cars around is directly linked to its popularity and sales.

It would be suicide for Ford........and it'll never happen.

Unhappy

The F-Series trucks with the 5.4L Triton engine share the same VCT, Electronic Throttle, and Torque-based engine management system as the new Mustang. Does anyone know what aftermarket performance parts are available for them? This will be the best indicator of how difficult it will be to upgrade the Mustang. I remember seeing lots of aftermarket upgrades available for the F-series at last year's SEMA show.

the 4.6L is far from maxed out. If i recall the 5.4L is capable of near 800 hp with out the supercharger and blowing up.

the 4.6L i think could top out about 500-600 range.

Geez the Nissan Supra can make 2000 hp.

The problem is no one really wants to pay for a 600 hp car. Can you imagine a town car with 600 hp barreling down the road in your rear view mirror?

scary stuff.

Most motors are de-tuned for reliability

setting up a Supra engine for 2000hp with a stock bottom end may not blow it up right away, but the longevity on a motor loke that is not long.

There are far too many electronics experts in the aftermarket. To even remotely think they could not break Ford's programming. Even without Ford's help. There are just too many people trying it. And Ford also realizes that people modify mustangs. So why would htey then restrict what kind of mods you could do? That would be the equivilant of giving us a Geo Metro and putting mustang badges on it.
